We always book on the starboard side. No reason. Just feels more comfortable!

It seems I never get lucky with port side. Never seem to be facing the port. Maybe 50% of the time? I prefer the side facing the port while we are docked. wish there was a way to know beforehand as to which side a particular ship will be docking.

Aside from trans-Atlantics and similar itineraries where there is a predictable reason (sun or shade) there really is no difference.

Years ago, NCL had smoking on one side and not on the other. The side made big difference to some people.

Port side

Many times that side of the ship faces inland when in port.

We like to sit out on our verandah with a drink and snacks and people watch.
