# 10 bus tips

Any tips & directions to find the # 10 jitney bus near the port? Looking to take it to/ from the Sheraton in a couple weeks.

To get to the bus, go straight out of the port (up parliament st). to Bay Street and make a right at Scotia Bank.

Walk 3 short blocks and pass the straw market, George Street is on the left. There will be someone there to guide you to the next bus.

Other's may tell you to go to the McDonalds across from the Hilton. This is the first stop, but the bus may be full by this time. Board at the beginning and you won't have a problem.

Tell the driver where you are going, and pay as you leave the jitney. $1.25 pp. Drivers do not like giving change, so try and have exact $

When we left the Sheritan to get the bus, the staff was kind of vague, and said just go down to the front of the hotel, not quite true, really flag them down, they stop at the hotel to your left (when you leave the Sheritan), and then only when someone working there stopped them by yelling at them. Worse comes to worse, there are cabs in front of the hotel.

Thanks. Any special markings so we don't get fooled into another private xport? I know in GC the license plates are different colors. Return to port similar? Are the numbers posted prominently ?

It will have the number 10 on the bus. Don't get fooled by a 10A bus, it goes to the same place but takes a different route.

To pay the driver does one need all coin (US Quarters)?

Thanks

No, you can use US or bah $ - both bills and change.

If you are a family of 4.. you can even give him a 5. No need for breaking it down.

Most drivers do not like to give change.. I sometimes end up paying $2 because I forgot to bring quarters.

  • 2 weeks later...

Last fall my family of 5 took the jitney #10 to the Sheraton and back. It was really easy. We got on following the direction we found here, told the driver and got dropped off across the street from the Sheraton. The walk from were we got off to the hotel entrance is maybe 2 or 3 minutes, but you can see it. It is a large intersection that is across the street. When it was time to leave they told just out in front of the hotel, but it was actually across the street. There is an open air market type place with kiosks that sell souvenir type stuff across from the Sheraton and that is where we actually boarded the bus back to the port. We got off near the straw market did some shopping and walked back to the port. It was really easy and much cheaper than a taxi.

The Sheraton was nice to. We were able to use there chairs, towels, beach floats, water tricycle and the bar has free ice water for those that don't drink. There are also ping pong tables and the pool is nice.
