Fish Fry - Nassau - Safe?

Back to the OP.... We always felt safe (not a couple of hundred people there).

We never walked there took #10 Jitney (local bus line, lots of fun).

I am thinking not a whole lot of people know about this place, just follow scubagirrl's advise! (she is the best!)

clackey: Conch is on my list too, but, I get all the "shrimps" I can handle on the ship;)

RWA: Great info, keepin this in mind! We did an overnite on the Sensation, had my 90yr. old DM with me, so, I had to "behave". She can run "circles" around me though:eek:

Back to OP.....

Here are some a few more shots from the Fry, on one you can see the distance from the ships, not that far at all. These were taken from the Anchorage, there at the Fry.

You won't be dissapointed:D

Regarding the OP's question, we walked from the cruise port to Fish Fry and never once felt uncomfortable in any way. The walk along Junkanoo was really enjoyable. There were three of us and we stopped at the Bikini Tiki to take advantage of their 3 beers + 3 shots for $9.99. We absolutely loved that place! Byron made sure that all of his customers felt welcome and he wanted to make sure that everyone was enjoying themselves. I would definitely recommend stopping there for a visit along the way if you do walk over to Fish Fry.

I've walked to the Bikini Tiki Bar - love it!!!!!

Not to beat a dead horse, but, those of you saying that you felt safe, were any of you single females? I would be going there by myself and I am reading on tripadvisor about people practically being pulled into restaurants, approached aggressively. etc.

I just want to take pics of the pretty restaurants and then get myself a nice, cheap lunch. I would VERY easily be intimidated if I was surrounded by a bunch of men, just sayin'.

I was not there alone. I was with my husband and 2 other girls from the ship. I still don't think I would have felt unsafe though. There are people out trying to get you to go into there establishment, however I think I felt much less safe walking down south beach in Miami. They people in Miami where much more pushy. Maybe try and find someone on the ship to go with you. The 2 girls we went with, we had only meet a few hours before on a snorkel excursion. They were actually the ones who told us about the fish fry. We had such a good time with them and even ended up hanging out with them a few more times the rest of the cruise.

Nassua is much like Cozumel when it comes to single women. If you have an escort everything is cool. If you are alone you are fair game. You probably would be fine, but just to be on the safe side why not check out your roll call for others going to the Fry. Are better yet, go with some of your new friends that you met on the ship.

During the daytime, I would say that it's safe for a women to walk from downtown to the fish fry and back. After 5/6pm, I'd take a cab or jitney back to town.

I walk this all the time. It's easy, and this is a busy main road. Lots of people, business and out in the open.

Just keep your eyes open, and your valuables secure. that's the same for any city.

Most likely you will be fine but I have seen a few instances where a lady would get cat calls and whistles when they were unescorted. My wife usually gives me an elbow when this happens.:D:D

On our last visit some of the restaurants had scouts out to lead customers to their establishments. So it could be a little unnerving for a single lady when they are approached. We had one stop us at Junkanoo Beach. I'm. 6' and 220# but if I was a female I could have been worried.

Hi Scuba! I gotta say though, you walk with the air of someone who is confident and knows they belong there. I'd be scurrying around like a lost mouse, asking for directions, taking pictures, an obvious tourist. I think there WOULD be a difference. I was planning to take the jitney, though. It's not the walk to the FRy I'm worried about, it's once I get there.

I agree that the hawkers can be intimidating.. even for me.

Best to go with a place in mind, and just say no thanks, I'm meeting someone at>>> I do it all the time.. even when I'm solo.

There's plenty of great options - Goldies, Anchorage, Oh Andros, Frankie Goes Bananas etc.

Pick one and go for it.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just back today and felt like I needed to chime in on Andros. We had wonderful meal and were docked late so walked back to ship about 8 pm well after dark and never felt in any danger. I would highly recommend Oh Andros. Be careful because others on ship were taken to other restaurants by taxi drivers who were clearly getting kick backs. Better to know exactly where you want to go.
