Can't believe I didn't ask this before...

The cruise line usually asks that you arrive around 12:30 or 1:00, but lots of experienced cruisers tend to arrive earlier because, often even if you arrive at 10:30 or 11:00, you will be able to board early. Besides, when you choose to arrive at the "recommended time", that is likely to be the same time the majority of other passengers choose also. If all three (or five) thousand people arrived at the "recommended" time, think of the line you'd have then. Some early and some late, spreads it out a bit.

Just remember that if you choose to arrive earlier than the recommendation, be mentally prepared for a wait, because boarding is just as likely to start later.

That being said, I still like to arrive early. Heck, when we're getting ready to board a ship, even the waiting in line is fun. It is what you make it.

two weeks ago we waited 'til 1:30 and were from the terminal front door to on the ship in about 15 minutes . . . we put he carry in in the room and had plenty of time for a WJ lunch. No line at all for check-in. Multiple agents just waiting for someone to show up. We arrived on a shuttle from ParkNCruise and every one on the bus was able to walk right up to the counter!

The first time I had qualified for priority boarding ... there was no line. I was so bummed. The previous cruise I was in a line that snaked back and forth ... and I could see the priority boarding folks get express service so I was really looking forward to it.
