PrincessLuver Posted October 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Harris CapRock has struck a five-year deal with Carnival Corporation to deliver communications services to more than 100 cruise ships of 10 different cruise lines. Harris CapRock offers satellite and terrestrial communications services to remote areas. The collaboration with Harris CapRock will help Carnival Corp. to provide enhanced bandwidth service to its onboard customers. :)

Wehwalt Posted October 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Hope this comes with a reduction in cost! It had better. T-Mobile's new unlimited international plan (20 cents a minute, unlimited data) combined with an iPhone or other brand phone with a hotspot, means on heavily port-intensive cruises, there may be a lot less use of the internet. I plan to switch on Tuesday and will happily pay the changeover fee. Be nice if they added a newspaper to the "free sites", as they do on Holland America. Wikipedia would be a good add too (glancing in the direction of the Princess people hopefully looking at the thread).
Gunner22aa Posted October 17, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Is only part of the issue. Signal lag time is the real problem and virtually unfixable. While the milli seconds your transmition takes to get to the satellite seems like nothing it is a big deal when providing mobile internet to remote locations. I do however hope the service shows at least a marginal improvement as right now it it's like mating elephants. Takes forever to see results.
