Tahiti or Raitea

Dean

Recommended Posts

PG has changed their normal seven day cruise from stopping at Raitea in 2013 to stopping at Huahine in 2014.

We will be on the My 10th cruise and finish up in Bora Bora before we leave for New Zealand. The flight schedule for Air New Zealand requires us to stay one more day in the Society Islands. My question...Should we spend the extra day and night in Raitea or fly back to Tahiti and spend the extra time there before flying to New Zealand.

In other words, do we spend an extra 36 hours in Tahiti or Raitea

Thank you

My original thread was a little confusing. We will be completing the cruise that ends in Tahiti where we will then fly back to Bora Bora and stay at the Four Seasons for four nights.

We then have the option of flying back to Tahiti or flying to Raitea, stay one night and then fly to Tahiti for our flight out to New Zealand.

We will arrive in Tahiti two days prior to our cruise and have booked these days and nights in Moorea. We will take the ferry back from Moorea to the cruise ship a few hours before our ship leaves.

From what we have read in these forums, Moorea is a Island that we could spend more that the two days that we will be visiting on the PG itinerary so we decided to spend a few more days there as opposed to spend it in Tahiti.

We could come back earlier from Moorea and spend a day in Tahiti if appropriate. Decisions, decisions..

Well, my memory of Raiatea is that it's a pretty laid-back, largely undeveloped island. Popular with yachters, not many significant hotels I don't think.

But if it's easy to stopover after Bora Bora by air, why not? Then again it might depend on the time of day of your flight out. Might be easier/less stressful to be in Tahiti the night before you leave.

I would just stay an extra night at the four seasons if flight timings are suitable. All will depend on your flight timings IMO.

I havent been to the 4 seasons in bora bora but I heard very good things about the property from a friend.

I agree with Emdee on this. Stay an extra night in Bora Bora or Fly to Tahiti and spend the night Tahiti is a great place at the end of a trip to buy things to bring back home. As you will be flying to Bora Bora your weight allowance will only be 20g each so knowing your major shopping will be back in Tahiti where the weight won't be as big of a factor n your return that is the way I would do it.

1 day in Raiatea (half of it doing your transfers and packing unpacking) isn't going to get you much plus there really isn't anything even close to the 4 Seasons in quality .......... leave on a high note, stay the extra night in Bora Bora or get yourself back to Tahiti.

It appears as if most of the comments are to stay an extra day in Bora Bora. Great idea - I will have to break our budget again to pay for the extra night, but since this is our 50 th wedding anniversary trip and we probably will not return, why not ?

Thank you for all of your comments.

Dean,

Have you researched using a 4 seasons specialist? They sometimes offer great deals. We use the AMEX Platinum concierge for 4 seasons bookings as they give you some freebies.. breakfast, upgraded room, food credit etc.

Of course 4 seasons always breaks the budget but do enjoy!

We were able to buy a lagoon view and receive a guaranteed mountain view bungalow upgrade with a few fringes thrown in including "special food amenity" (what ever that means), free breakfast, extra free night, (pay for three get one free), 75 Euro spa credit, free internet and late check out.

My wife is really excited about her special trip. I am beginning to book the excursions on both our cruise days as well as the days we will in Bora Bora bungalows.

Thank you again for everyone's comments.

See the resort layout and the rooms in relationship to the mountain. Ask for a room that meets your criteria based on the map. Don't ask for a particular room but say it like, "would love a room similar to room #'s __ an __". The idea is to give an example without asking for a room by number as they sometimes frown on that. I would stick with the rooms on the west pontoon or the complete east end of the east pontoon. Look at Google maps in relation to the layout here and you can see the patios in relationship to the view.
