runnerswife Posted October 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2013 Question - We will be in Brooklyn Port on the Emerald and are planning to meet up with family who live in NY. Is there any place away from the busy port to meet? Any restaurants or someplace walkable? When I google directions to a nearby restaurant, they said there may not be any sidewalks? Any info greatly appreciated. Mary
Love the beach Posted October 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2013 Perhaps these links will help: The terminal is just a few blocks from Van Brunt St https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=brooklyn+cruise+terminal&fb=1&gl=us&hq=brooklyn+cruise+terminal&hnear=0x89c24416947c2109:0x82765c7404007886,Brooklyn,+NY&cid=0,0,4399954937746767566&ei=oV9oUp7xN8bukQfy04DYAQ&ved=0CKMBEPwS If you click on "search nearby" for restaurants---quite a few will come up in the vicinity. And here is another: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/27/dining/eating-and-drinking-red-hook-brooklyn.html?_r=

Mary I live in the area there are a couple of decent restaurants in the area(within a quarter mile). the closest is Hope and anchor which is on van Brunt http://www.hopeandanchorredhook.com There are sidewalks through out the area. Its not Kansas. also Fairway- as supermarket has a snack bar and outdoor seating area inexpensive great view of the harbor. http://www.fairwaymarket.com/restoreredhook http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/27/dining/eating-and-drinking-red-hook-brooklyn.html Fort Defiance, the Good Fork and Red Hook lobster pound are also recommended...but I eat at Hope and Anchor

I certainly didn't mean to imply anything about sidewalks in Brooklyn. I am originally from NY (Queens) and also have lived in the Midwest where there are also sidewalks in Kansas!!! However, when I google mapped the area they said "there may not be sidewalks in the port area. Anyway, all our arrangements are now made and I DO appreciate the links and info you provided. Mary LOL some of the comments made are funny. The last one that talked about derelict buildings use a picture of Fairway...which has very expensive Condos over the supermarket...and is by no means derelict. There are sidewalks really through out the area.
njhorseman Posted October 24, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2013 When you ask for walking directions on Google Maps it always says "Walking directions are in beta. Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths." ...even if you're requesting directions in Midtown Manhattan. Their database just has no information about where there are sidewalks and where there aren't.
