cantwaitfornextcruise Posted October 30, 2013 #76 Share Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) We are in an aft Dolphin cabin. Previous reports of soot on deck are confirmed. To quote my wife, "The complaints were definitely valid." She reminded me that previous ships had rubber matsthat may have helped. Was there soot on your balcony when you boarded it hadn't been cleaned up ? Edited October 30, 2013 by cantwaitfornextcruise
paulmichael Posted October 30, 2013 Author #77 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Well its 7:30 am and I'm not quite awake yet. Embarkation went well, got to the ship around 10 and was on and in the cabin by 11:30. I'm in D309 and for me the cabin is just fine, more than enough storage for me and the cabin was clean and ready to go. Sail away was one hour late due to luggage being loaded, buy the way my luggage was in my cabin before muster,,, as for muster while it was a little hectic was fast and easy. I'm lucky my cabin is very near to the stairwell so it's not too bad for me to get around, elevators were very slow at first but last night we had no problems using them. got all our reservations, Sabatini's , Crown Grill just fine but are only on the waiting list for the Chef's table. Stated our night in Crooners, then some time in the Casino, fun but down a few $$, then a late 8:30 dinner with 7 of us in Concerto. Service was great as was the food. Not sure if it was due to us dinning late, but we had everyone crooning over us. I had the prime rib and found it to be cooked rare as I like it and quite good I will take some time today and catch up on the other post a and try and answer questions, We did have a nice CC sailway yesterday and a few of us will jump in on this post to keep everyone up to date. so far I love the ship and have found nothing wrong, but we just got on board. below are a few updates. 1. yet the toilet paper holder location sucks 2. no crap on my balcony, while it is small, I'm only one person so it's fine for me 3. you do need to have your walking shoes to get around 4. I have been told I will get my laundry back in one day, will try it today 5. we had no problems getting drinks both out on deck and last night in crooners 6. I love the bed and bedding 7 my TV works just fine, it will take a few minutes to learn how to work it, but works for me our weather was and is great, today first stop is Princess Cays, so time to get food, had a few drinks last night, and get ready for the day, will post when I get back on board love and XX from the Royal Mike :) :)

It was our steward's first day on the job. I kept saying soot. He thought I said suit. He cleaned the balcony this morning.
blue cow dog Posted October 30, 2013 #88 Share Posted October 30, 2013 For anybody who is on the ship. Did you notice if Princess seemed to be checking harder for Wine or other in luggage? In carry on? I know in the past we have had not problems bringing small amounts on board via checked luggage or carry on while boarding in Port Everglades. I normally bring a few bottles of wine and wanted to see if they were stressing one bottle a person or not and if anybody carried on anything else to drink. lynwar Posted October 30, 2013 #89 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Good Afternoon, I'm glad you are finding the ship fine, so far. Hubby seems to think it's good exercise for the arm to contort for the toilet paper location. We shall see. :D Your weather conditions should make for a wonderful day on Princess Cays. I hope you enjoy your day there. I was just corrected; it's 2 1/2 days until we sail, so our good times will start sooner than I thought! :) And, I would also like to express a request to say hello to Rich and Diana, Joe and Amelia in Crooners, and Donna and James. They are from Nova Scotia. I expect they will find time to go in there, too. I am looking forward to following the cruise with all of you. Thanks for letting us join you. To quote my wife, "The complaints were definitely valid." She reminded me that previous ships had rubber matsthat may have helped. I look forward to your future impressions of the situation. I have a Dolphinn aft (D729) booked for next year's repositioning and am already a bit concerned. I guess since it is partially covered I am not too worried about soot falling on me, and don't mind if we need to wipe stuff down. I am worried more if there are any respiratory problems? Is there any odor along with the soot. My DH has mild ashtma but we desparately want to try and aft balcony. Thanks. lynwar Posted October 30, 2013 #91 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Coral, Thanks for the reply. I figured it had to be something like that, a special sailing. It was just weird to hear that she was returning after knowing that she had already docked once, and saw the pictures to prove it! :) Lynne

(Sorry if I am hijacking the thread from the OP) Dana My wife has ashtma and is actually having an ashtma atack that actually resulted from a cold we both got on the TA (different cabin). I don't know if it had been reported, but a lot of people were coughing. She doesn't feel the soot is contributing, nor have we noticed any smell. paulmichael Posted October 30, 2013 Author #98 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Great to see a lot of us on board posting, I agree that I am seeing a lot of people hacking but I don't think it is due to any soot. my cabin has none. Great day at the Cay but one thing that needs to be noted is that the Royals tenders are much larger than others on Princess, thus, they hold a lot more people so getting on and off can be a little longer than you are used to, no big problem but just be aware. I do hope that the hacking is not due to anything more than dry weather. Today looks like a lot of us are drinking a bit more than we should, just saying, but it may be to my advantage in getting in to one to the other dinning rooms without a reservation. Sent laundry out so see when it returns Mike :)
gracie65 Posted October 30, 2013 #99 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Question, for those of you dining at Crown Grill and Sabitini's, I know many have said to make reservations early.
