Amsterdam hotel/tour question

My family will be doing the Russia/Scandanavia Celebrity cruise next June. We set sail from Amsterdam. We are planning on getting to Amsterdam a day or two early to see some of the city.

We would like to hit up a few museums and do a boat tour. Does anyone have any recommendations for a tour company.

Also looking for a hotel recommendation. We will be traveling with a 3.5 year old so nightlife won't be of much interest to us in choosing what to see or where to stay.

Thank you!

They have a HOHO boat tour that would get you to the major sights in Amsterdam or take the trams get a tram pass for the days you are there Do you have a budget for hotel ?? Lots of hotels in Amsterdam to fit all budgets ...we like the Movenpick it is close enough to the Centre but quiet for sleeping & best of all next door to the port building Watch when booking hotels... some are walk-ups with luggage & a toddler could be a bit much Check trip advisor for reviews

Amsterdam is very easy to do, either walking around or using the trams/buses. Public transport is very good.

You can make canaltours by boat, either hop on./off or the regular 1 hour tours. Sold in many places in town.

Rijksmuseum, van Goghmuseum and Stedelijk (modern art) are all more or less neighbours around Museumplein. Try to make reservations online to skip the sometimes long lines. Also for the Anne Frankhuis.

Maybe the museumjaarkaart is for you: http://www.museumkaart.nl/]E. 49.95 for many museums. Unfortunately that site seems to be only in dutch.

You can buy single tickets of course (again often online) or maybe the I Amsterdamcard: http://www.iamsterdam.com/en-GB/Experience/Deals/I%20amsterdam%20City%20Card

Lots of information about Amsterdam and its surroundings: http://www.iamsterdam.com/en-GB/Experience

Choice in hotels is wide. Hotels around Centraal Station are close to the cruise terminal. Hotels around Museumplein near the museums.

But nothing is really far apart.

VondelPark is a great place to take a toddler, especially on that first morning when everyone is jetlagged.

We did the same cruise last September and it was awesome so you're in for a real treat! We stayed at the Hotel Fita pre-cruise. It had many great reviews and frankly, I'm not sure why. It was okay, but just a very basic old hotel with no amenities. We had to leave the window open due to the stuffiness of the room and a gang of teens hung outside the hotel all night drinking, shouting, and playing music very loud music. We stayed at the American Hotel post cruise and it was great! Great location, nice big clean room overlooking the canal. Full amenities and as central to everything as you can get. We loved it and highly recommend. It was the same price as the Hotel Fita and we were just sorry we didn't stay her from the beginning. I will be staying here for sure next time I go to Amsterdam.

You might have better luck just doing things on your own, instead of booking a tour as the little one might be on its own schedule. Here are a couple of websites with listings for things to do with children in Amsterdam.

Even just walking the flower market Bloemenmarkt, could be fun for a slow walk amongst the pretty flowers.
