Where is cruise terminal in Fort Lauderdale?

Hi

We are cruising on Oasis of the Seas next October from Southampton and was wondering where in Fort Lauderdale the terminal is. Our plan is to then hire a car, go to the Keys for a few days and then catch a Celebrity cruise to San Diego through the Panama Canal from Miami. How far is the car hire from the terminal? How far is the car hire from the Miami terminal?

Thanks everyone.

The Fort Lauderdale terminal is at Port Everglades. It is about a 10 minute taxi ride to FLL airport. There are several rental car places near to the terminal. I believe they have a shuttle pick up, at the ship, if you have a reservation. I do not know about a drop off at the Miami port. We use Budget rental car office on 17th street causeway. It is 5 minutes from the ship, and they have a shuttle.

They are across the city from each other......not close at all. The Airport is quite a bit west of HWY 95 and the Port is on the East Coast. If traffic is moving maybe 20-30 min drive??????

You mention both Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Which are you cruising from? Not really sure what you're asking.

The OP is cruising from Southampton to FLL on the Oasis where that cruise ends, then driving to Miami to board another ship and sail to San Diego. His first question is how far the rental car agency is from the port in FLL. His second question is how far is the drive to The ship in Miami.

Hi

How far is the car hire from the terminal? How far is the car hire from the Miami terminal?

Thanks everyone.

Both would depend on which car rental company you choose. What do you mean by "how far?" Distance, time, expense?????? There is a wealth of information here but you really need to be more specific. Some car rental companies will have shuttle's from their sites to and from the ports. If not there are always taxi's. Find the best car rental deal you can, and deal with it from there. If your question is primarily about car rental locations, why would you title your thread "Where is cruise terminal......?.". Also, a better place to ask this question is in the Florida Departures section of CC.

I guess by car hire you mean rent a car.

At Port Everglades the car rental locations are about 10-15 minutes away, they have shuttles from the terminal if you reserve a car.

Depending on the rental company you use, the trip to Port of Miami can be anywhere from 10-25 minutes.

Unfortunately, neither port offer on-site car rental agencies.

For Ft. Lauderdale, there is a shuttle service to the FLL airport, where you can choose from any number of car rental agencies, and which somewhat inconvenient, likely offers the most options and cheapest prices. I suspect Hertz Local will pick you up at the port (you take the driver back to the local rental office), however, this usually only weekday service.

Last time I went to Port Everglades (Ft Lauderdale port), I rented a car from Miami Airport, and dropped it off at the Ft Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hertz drop off location, and took the hotel shuttle to the port.

Miami is similar: there is no on-site rental car facilities. However there are four car rental agencies that operate shuttle service from the port to their off-port location sites:

There is also shuttle service to Miami airport, where again, more car rental options are available. Dropping the car off at the airport, and taking a shuttle or taxi to the port in Miami would be fairly easy, and save you from the somewhat complicated drive onto the port.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. We arrive at Fort Lauderdale on Oasis and then intend to pick a rent a car up and drive Florida (parts of at least). We would then leave our car at Miami and take the Celebrity cruise from Miami to San Diego and fly home from there.

Which car rental has a shuttle from Fort Lauderdale to their pick up?

FLL is the airport code for the Ft Lauderdale Airport which is located a very short distance to the South-Southwest from Port Everglades (about $12 taxi fare) via the Eller Drive entrance/exit. At the airport, as one would expect, are a number of car rental agencies, some of which have a shuttle that will pick you up at the port.

Out the north entrance/exit of the port via Eisenhower Blvd is Budget Car Rental across a very big parking lot from the Renaissance Hotel on the 17th Street Causeway. They provide a shuttle to and from the port, otherwise it is about a $10 taxi fare. Use the code Y937800 for a discount.

If you want to drive to the Keys you should take the Florida Turnpike and NOT Interstate 95. Choose to pay your own tolls with cash rather than using the rental car's Sun Pass. It would be very wise to bring a GPS, especially upon your return to the Port of Miami. You can have one added at the rental car agency, but they will charge you about $11 per day, so you might as well buy one.

Whatever car rental agency you rent from make sure they have a complimentary shuttle from the Miami Airport (MIA) to the Port of Miami. Not all of them do. I know Alamo does and I'm pretty sure Budget, Dollar and Thrifty does. Others on this board can confirm this. Hertz shuttles to the POM from one of their Downtown locations.

Good luck.

One other note of caution, if you are going down to Key west and staying until the morning of 11/4. You must drive on the Overseas Highway, and cross a section known as Seven Mile Bridge, it has been the scene of some horrific accidents. Leave early in the AM as a bad accident will shut the bridge down, sometimes for many hours if there is a fatality. It doesn't happen often, but always better to err on the cautious side as the bridge is the only way out of the Southern Keys.
