dress for MDR

Good Afternoon,

Sailing on Princess for the first time. We have a late seating in the MDR. Are capri pants for women ok? Or would pants/ dress be more appropriate?

The web site says "smart casual". That description leaves a lot to interpretation depending on the part of the country you live in.

Thank you.

Anything nice on a lady seems to be acceptable We rarely look dreadful - of course no shorts. So long as gentlemen's legs and arms are covered in non raggety cloths that also seems acceptable but I love to see the dinner jackets and glitter of the ladies dresses

"Smart" casual is nicer than just plain casual. While jeans and capris are OK and you won't be turned away, most women wear slacks and nice tops rather than capris or jeans. The only time I've seen them is perhaps at an early dinner time on a late port day and people didn't want to change. Think of smart casual as church casual, i.e., better than everyday clothes you'd wear to McD's. The dining room is the equivalent of going to a nice restaurant where you'd order a 4-course meal.

As you have found out, capri pants are allowed on women. Men have to wear some type of pants or jeans and a shirt. It depends on what part of the US you are sailing and who is aboard. If you sail out of Galveston/Houston, jeans will be worn by most everyone male and female.
