Quote from OP

""Wine Snobs": Will have a Rum punch as we leave port...but will spend most of the time at the Martini Bar (Grey Goose). They will then have a bottle of modest priced wine with dinner...then maybe hit the Winevino machine, while hitting the casino...."

It sounds like the wine snobs will also be at the Martini Bar which IS included in the premium package. Also, the premium package includes a 30% discount on bottled wines.

The only question is if this is worth the $54/day on top of the cash they'd lay out for items that are not included.

...You are saying...that the Classic Package will give the "Bar Rags" all the Jack and Coke they can drink? (Jack being Jack Daniels brand name)?

They can get that brand in the Classic Package...no need for the Premium?...

Yes. The classic package actually includes a lot of nice quality call brands, just not the top shelf stuff. If you look at the Celebrity package descriptions on this link: click here

You'll see that a word in the first paragraph of each package description is underlined - that is a link that will take you to a representative list of the soft drinks, spirits and beers included in that package.

PS One thing I never took into account when trying to decide on a package upgrade was how many drinks I might take a sip of and not like. I did find with them figuring out the new drink menu, there were a lot of not so good drinks. Wasn't a problem with the upgraded drink package as I just left them somewhere and got a new drink :D I did fall in love with the 'indulgence' a the molecular bar... It's like adult chocolate milk :)

Does anyone have any updated information on whether you will pay higher price on board vs, in advance for upgrading your beverage package?

I haven't read a single post online where someone said they paid more upgrading on board, though I called the enhancement line the other day, and the woman said she was quite positive I would pay more than the $11.50 pp/pd charge to upgrade on board.

With pre-paid gratituties, and included alchohol, I'd rather not have to spend my OBC frivolously

My suggestion is to find the Roll Call for the cruise right before yours and the one before that (on your ship).

Ask someone on the Roll Call to inquire on the ship. That way you'll know exactly what they're doing on your ship.

Just noticed this is your first post.

Do you know how to find a roll call?

Celebrity has just recently started to charge the differences on board vs pre cruise. I would bet if you upgrade on board you will be paying $17.25 per day. Here is the list of pricing:

Classic Package:

Pre-Cruise OnBoard

$44.00 pp per day $49.00 pp per day

Premium

$54.00 pp per day $59.00 pp per day

I cant see Celebrity letting anyone upgrade onboard for the 11.50 a day anymore.

Just off Reflection NewYears Eve cruise and paid the $11.50 per day upgrade. I think there is a difference between buying a package and then upgrading, vs. getting the Classic Package for FREE when booking and then upgrading on board or online. Both packages do have red tape with fine print I could not fine in print. Not good on BOGO at martini bar. If you ordered a drink over your limit of $8 you pay full price. Some $8 popular drinks went to $8.50 resulting from so many FREE Classic cards being given away. But with either package you can stay pretty drunk for 7 days if you can hold your liquor. And hey, if it's FREE who's counting how many you can drink?

We upgraded on the Solstice in May, didn't on the Eclipse in October--but going on the Silhouette in Feb will have to upgrade due to her Michael's Club with its 64 Microbrews--all of which are over $5. You could have just one Duval(Duvel)@$12 and have the $11.50/day covered.

It's also nice to be able to get Pravda and the other premium vodkas and liquors at all the bars, especially the Martini bar.

(Eclipse and Solstice don't have the Microbrews in their Michael's clubs.)

Thanks all for responding, even though the contradictions continue agghh :D

Seems like there is still a miscommunication in the company as the Enhancement dept did tell me it was "recent" change to charge more on ship for upgrading... so any day now they actually make the change??

Looks like my best bet is to take Chamin's advice and post to roll calls a week before mine leaves to see the latest update on the implementation of the policy.

If I book excursions in advance, do the free-style option dining, and have unlimited booze, there's nothing else I can think of to spend OBC on besides specialty dining. (Solstice). So maybe if that's the case I should just suck it up and pay irregardless if it's extra on board...

The only on specialty dining that looks interesting is Maurano, but it would have to be reallly good to be worth $45pp on top of cruise fare.

Well hopefully you don't bet. Because you would lose. :).

It' will be 11.50 if you have a package prior to your cruise. All confirmed by Celebrity and many people on this board.

I also agree that it MOST PROBABLY would be $11.50 to upgrade whether beforehand or on board.

Host Andy inquired a while back and that was the final answer he got.

I will be on the Eclipse in early February and would be happy to report back but the OP will be on the Solstice so that may not help.

I still think finding out from someone on the cruise before your own is the only reliable way to check.

(In the interest of honest disclosure I have to admit that I chickened out on this and upgraded now.

But I also realized that our tips (we eat traditional) and internet time will eat up our OBCs so I had nothing to lose.)

Actually you just gave me a good idea. I'll buy chips equal to my obc , and then cash them out. People disagree on the forums whether that works though unless you are not allowed to use obc for gambling I don't see how they could control it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just returned and upgraded onboard for $11.50. Drink limit was upped to $13.00. Had a glass of wine at Cellar Masters that was $13.50 and BT charged the 50 cents. First time that ever happen and I gave a $2.00 tip. He was apologetic and said the company was watching very closely. Told him no problem. The wine was nasty, couldn't even drink it.

Just a quick heads up the new Elite Plus

gives a 10% discount on drinks packages

purchased on board. I was told by Captains Club Rep

that the discount will be applied to the cost of the upgrade

from classic to premium.

So I am going to wait till I'm on board to upgrade.

can anyone who cruised relatively recently confirm if it is still 11.50 per a day to upgrade to premium on the boat ? Thanks!

I cruised on 3/31 and it was $11.50 per day. As soon as we got on the ship there was a table where they were selling the packages and I was able to upgrade there. We did not even have to leave the lobby area to do it. It took about 2 minutes.

Hey All,

Please take pity on me. I'm planning a destination wedding...and I just don't have the energy to look for the answer.....

We have about 25 nubies (first time cruisers) traveling with us to our destination wedding in the Bahama's. Some are cheap...some are not.

We are not.

We have been told by our Group Rep. to wait until we are onboard to select which package we buy. Our guests are asking for our advise, now??!!. Our wedding party is divided between the "Wine Snobs" and the "Bar Rag". I know what each group drinks...and value your thoughts:

"Wine Snobs": Will have a Rum punch as we leave port...but will spend most of the time at the Martini Bar (Grey Goose). They will then have a bottle of modest priced wine with dinner...then maybe hit the Winevino machine, while hitting the casino.

"Bar Rags": They will also have a drink, as we leave port (Jack 'n Coke) and MAY have a Martini (depending on price). They will then have a few more Jack 'n Cokes before dinner....MAYBE a glass of wine with dinner....then Jack 'n Cokes (or Gin n' Tonics) for the rest of the night.

Which package(s) do you recommend for each?

Thank you SO MUCH for your help!!!:p:p

Dwayne

I would also recommend Premium for Wine Snobs and Classic for Bar Rags, HOWEVER, warn the Wine Snobs that if they used the Winevino machine, they will pay the full price for each ounce they purchase which will be charged to their stateroom. The machines, your room bar and room service are not included in either package.

The 'machines' are all being turned off and taken out. The Equinox is the first to have Cellar Masters removed and revamped this week while in dry dock.

For those that have the higher Celebrity Credit Card, you also get 10% off the cost of the premium beverage package. I was told you had to purchase it prior to the cruise to recieve the discount, however the CC Rep on the Century took care of it for me on board.

The difference is still $10 or $11.50 with gratuity. Are you suggesting that Celebrity will somehow discount the difference? Of course that would be good, but is a little surprising to me.

If yes, are you also suggesting that you cannot get the discount unless it is booked on board?

I was told that I could use the coupon and get the 10% discount,

So on a 14 night cruise the cost is $161 so that would be a discount

of $16.10.

This is a special discount for Elite + members of Captains Club.

It can only be done onboard as it is with the vouchers left in

your cabin on embarkation day.

However the terms and conditions say that it cannot be used with

promotional packages (just found that out)

But once again different info from the web site and the staff on the ship.

I am going to wait anyway till I get on board as I can use my OBC to pay

For the upgrade.

Cheers
