luxurytraveller Posted November 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2013 I remember hearing that Baristas on Marina and Riviera was to be moved to the Casino bar area. Does anyone know if this has happened or when it is scheduled.

It seems more likely that what you "heard" was that the Barista's concept from the Marina Class ships is being rolled out to the smaller ships (Regatta, Insignia and Nautica), during their 2014 refits and that on those smaller ships, the Grand Bar, located at the entrance to the Grand Dining Room, will become a Baristas during the day. Said refits are slated to occur during the second quarter of 2014.
corpkid Posted November 25, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Our favorite "spot" on the ship... We plan to spend quite a few hours there sipping on that delish coffee on our next 2 (more laid back) cruises on Marina. :) Me, my ipad, and a cup of Illy and I'm a happy dude. So funny I really do not like the location of Baristas on the O ships at all. Crowded -- at the bar you are elbow to elbow with someone No place to really sit and relax with a latte Many passengers "walk through" the space to get from the Library to the outside deck. I did not find it restful or peaceful. We ultimately took our lattes and went elsewhere. In contrast, Azamara deck 5 (Mosaic Cafe) -- an entire space devoted to enjoying your espresso or latte -- is a fabulous venue. A great place to linger. Comfy chairs. Lots of space. I understand that the renovated R ships will transform the bar outside the GDR to Baristas. While I would prefer they do the same thing with Deck 5 that Azamara has done, I think the R ship locale might be a bit better than the O ship locale, particularly outside meal times. Hoping that;s the case. Edited November 27, 2013 by pacheco18
JimandStan Posted November 27, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) I'm surprised at you, Laraine, as I know that you've been to South America and suspect that you must be familiar with the walk up Coffee Bars which are the true inspiration for Baristas. Although Starbucks Et Al have watered down the concept to make it more more "comfy", the Oceania version is more sophisticated, and those gorgeous walls of glass and outdoor terraces of Deck 14 on Marina & Riviera do offer some compensations.... One last thought, the doors to the outside deck are located in the Library and in the Computer Room, just astern of the outside staircases which lead to the Deck 15 Jogging Track, so people don't walk through Baristas' to get outside. pacheco18 Posted November 27, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 27, 2013 I get the inspiration lol Not looking for Starbucks at sea I find the space uninviting and uncomfortable Not good for lingering IMO Azamara got this one right O did not Just my opinion Not a deal breaker for me on o but a huge attraction on Azamara for many, myself included I will be on riviera in two weeks I will try again

Jim -- wanted to add Unlike you, the undisputed expert of all things Oceania, most people are "lost" from time to time on the larger ships. They have no idea where the exits and doors are. It's a perpetual experiment. They do walk through Baristas to "try" to get outside. When I was on the Marina, the traffic was endless.
CintiPam Posted December 5, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 5, 2013 Pam -- you will miss the Mosaic. LOL That's for sure. I had a cafe latte at least once a day on Quest, and then proceeded to do so daily for the next two weeks I spent on my land trip in Europe. When I returned home, I kept looking around for my latte! (Spouse does not drink coffee!) I only tried Baristas once on Marina, but with my upcoming cruise having many sea days, I certainly plan to check it out on Riviera. And very much looking forward to the scones with clotted cream!:D
