Recommended Posts

Carnival website says:

At the entrance to the Queen Mary, stay to the far right of the parking ticket taker for the Queen Mary; this lane is the entrance to the Long Beach Cruise terminal.

Follow the signs for Passenger Parking and Luggage Drop-Off area.

Port Parking: $15 per day (rates subject to change by Port Authority)

  • 5-Story, 1450 space parking garage
  • Full payment due upon exiting the parking garage.
  • Accepted forms of payment: U.S. Dollars; major credit cards.
  • No advance reservations required.
  • Oversized vehicles will be charged per parking space.
  • Handicap parking available with proof of valid permit.

I seem to recall that the rate might be $17 per night now. Not sure if the last item is meaning that HC gets a $ charge or a zero-charge. Try to phone Carnival or the Port of Long Beach.

I don't know about the west coast but in Port Canaveral you can get handicap parking but it will cost the same as regular parking. That's fine with me. I use it when I cruise from there and don't know a good reason why anyone should get free parking.

Cheers!

Why would it be free? (Just asking) I can see having reserved spots of course, but why would it be free?

I have no idea why it is free, but in many places it is. I agree 100% that handicap should not equal park free.

I have had a temporary placard for about 18 months now due to multiple knee and foot surgeries after I crashed and burned on the ski slope. I am amazed at how many places I can park free. POM was free last month but I read somewhere that has ended. Denver City parking is free for 4 or 5 hours, can't remember which, even if you aren't in a handicap spot. State of Florida has similar laws.

Once again, don't understand it, not worth my time to debate it -- but I certainly take advantage of it.

Parking is $17/day. And they also charge by the hour. So if you arrive at 9am, but do not leave til 10:30 you will be charged the full days + the extra hour and a half.

Keep your receipt out as you will have to show it again.

Looks like the the rules changed just recently. Here they are for the Miami Port:

For Disabled Persons

Notice to Disabled Parking Patrons (Effective November 16, 2013 at 1201 A.M.)

Based on Ordinance 13-104 That Amends Section 30-338.2 of the Miami–Dade County Code;

Public parking charges WILL APPLY to vehicles parking at PortMiami’s public parking facilities that display a disabled parking permit or license tag, except as provided by Florida state law*. However, a vehicle displaying a disabled parking permit or license tag will be allowed up to two (2) hours of free parking. Any vehicle exceeding the two-hour free parking period will be charged for the entire time the vehicle uses the facility.

*In accordance with Florida state law, no parking charges will be imposed on any vehicle with specialized equipment, such as ramps, lifts, foot or hand controls, for use by a person with a disability, or any vehicle displaying the Florida Toll Exemption permit.

How to request complimentary disabled parking at PortMiami:

At the exit of all PortMiami parking garages, before handing the parking ticket from the automated machine to the parking attendant, advise the parking attendant that you would like a disability waiver of parking. The parking attendant will examine your vehicle to determine if the driver/vehicle meets the criteria for a parking waiver. The parking attendant will inspect the vehicle to determine if a Florida Turnpike Toll Exemption sticker is affixed to it and/or if the vehicle has specialized equipment and a hanging tag from the Division of Motor Vehicles verifying the equipment.

When the parking attendant verifies that a disability waiver of parking is allowable, the driver's name and address and the registration number on the sticker or hanging tag will be recorded on a form by the parking attendant.

Handicapped cruise parking is available in San Pedro, Long Beach and San Diego, but it is the same price as regular parking. In San Diego there was a time a number of years ago where handicapped parking was free in Ace Parking lots (the largest parking company in San Diego) but this was due to a settlement in an ADA suit, and that ended several years ago.
