sparklingsoul Posted December 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2013 All I like to do is swim and hang in the water all day (I don't snorkel). What's the best swimming beach near Belize City? Thanks!

Rare crewsweeper Posted December 9, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 9, 2013 The nearest "beach" to Belize City is a 20 minute cab ride. "Cucumber Beach is part of Old Belize. It's a manmade beach primarily for locals but if all you want is some sand between you toes and some salt water to take a dip in with a bar nearby, it will fit the bill. http://www.oldbelize.com/ And there are a coupel of You Tube vids out there if you google them under "Cucumber Beach Belize". Here's the water taxi schedules. http://www.ccwatertaxi.com/ http://www.belizewatertaxi.com/ The water taxis leave from two places just a couple of blocks from the tender pier and just a few blocks further up past the swing bridge. You might wish to make reservations but you can probably just buy tickets there.

bigdogsgal Posted December 27, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 27, 2013 We are leaving heading out Sunday on Carnival Magic and want to take water taxi to Caye Caulker. I see schedule posted. Looking for feedback on the trip since ship doesn't offer excursion to here.
39august Posted December 27, 2013 #12 Share Posted December 27, 2013 I have stayed on Caye Caulker for a land vacation. It is a laid-back village, no paved roads, no autos. You can walk whereever you want or you can rent golf carts. There is a lot of seagrass in the water near the water taxi dock and pretty much everywhere else except at "The Spit", which is a fair walk from the taxi dock. Anyone can point you the way. Water is very calm there and shallow a long way out, very good for children. However, the water taxi ride is at least 45 minutes and can be very rough. No shade on the taxis I saw, tho' that might have changed. I would be a bit leery of trying to do this on my own, tho' I know some people do so. 39august Posted December 28, 2013 #14 Share Posted December 28, 2013 (edited) There are no beaches near Belize City except for Cucumber beach, about 20 minute taxi ride away. Have never been there but have read this is a man-made beach used mostly by locals. No RCI excursions to beaches currently. Island Marketing offers a private excursion to Goff's Cay which is very small, but I have read several positive reviews. happybooker1 Posted December 28, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 28, 2013 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1958934 Second post down I explain how to get to Caye Caulker by yourself. Water taxi RT is $22.50 US per person. Ride does take about 45 minutes. Water taxis nearly all have roofs now &'are shaded. It's perfectly safe & cheaper than a ships tour.
