Port side. Yes, it was warm enough in October! We didn't eat breakfast on our balcony but did sit out there often. And had breakfast at the Sea View pool on the NA.

To expand on what Sheila said: Port side has the sun on the fall, west-bound run. In the spring, it's starboard, if you want the sun.

I will add...we are in a verandah stateroom - PORT SIDE - on the October Westbound Noordam cruise! ;) For that very reason.....

If you are taking the southern route ending in Ft. Lauderdale on a Fall TA it will probably be warm enough to really enjoy your veranda. The air might be a bit more brisk if your TA is to Boston or on a more northern route.

 

If you are considering Noordam or Nieuw Amsterdam, my choice would be Noordam. I have sailed on both and while they are nearly identical, Noordam wins my vote for it's more welcoming decor, ambiance and crew. Such things are subjective of course.

You've had all the advice you need on the side of the ship - if I was choosing between the two - I would sail the Noordam too.
