Obstructed balconies, noise from obstructions?

Never tried an obstructed balcony' date=' but wouldn't mind the savings. We are very light sleepers and I'm wondering if there is a lot of rattling noise from the lifeboat/tenders in front of the balcony?[/quote']

We were just on the Crown and had an obstructed VIEW cabin located mid-forward/ starboard/ Emerald Deck (8) alongside the lifeboats. The only time where was any noise was when the life boat was lowered for a drill one day. They started about 8:00 am and we are early risers so did not bother us. There were no other noises from the life boat - they are secured very well and do not move while the ship is in transit.

Hope that helps!

No noise problems in any obstructed oceanview cabins we've had but we did in a mini-suite above the lifeboats. The sitting area near the balcony had banging from below which apparently was from the lifeboats or other equipment under our floor. Although with near hurricane force winds in the Tasman Sea & southern New Zealand it's probably not routine to have such banging sounds in less windy locales.

If in a tender port in the morning, then the lowering (and the accompanying noise) may start earlier if that lifeboat is being used as a tender.

Hey Eileen - we have done 6 or 7 in OV obstructed and never had any noise problems, but we have always (except for the Royal) used renmar's website https://sites.google.com/site/cabinviewbyrenmar/home

to try & get a cabin that does not have an actual life boat directly in the center of the cabin window.

Thanks Terri. Great to hear from you.

Thanks all.

Eileen
