Atlantis - I don't get it.

Hi - I posted this on the RCI board in respose to another post.

I don't get the whole Atlantis thing. And I am not meaning to be "smart".

Seriously, I have been to waterparks with slides, nice big hotels, DisneyWorld, etc. what am I missing here? Why if you are on a cruise would you want to spend your day on an island at a hotel pool? If I wanted to hang out at a hotel pool I would have gone somewhere a lot closer to home and cheaper.

Anyway - those who have been there or plan on going....why?

CookieBird-

Atlantis is NOT just a hotel with a waterpark/slides...it is the largest (and well-kept, I might add) aquarium in the world...the views of the many different fish are incredible...there are a number of different pools, restaurants, etc. in this resort...I find watching the fish VERY peaceful, and there are so many different places to watch. Cabbage Beach is beautiful!

Safe, upscale and clean, a chance to get off the ship for a change of scenery, variety, my daughters always wanted to go there and this is a cheaper way to experience it without having to spend the night, fresh water pools as opposed to the salt water pools on the ship, I've seen the straw market before and don't like to shop anyway.

I was tempted to go to Breezes but after reading the hotel reviews at tripadvisor, I opted out of that - it's cheaper to rent a room at the Comfort Suites anyway. I wasn't interested in all I could eat or drink at Breezes for that matter.

atlantis has it all, it is a great resort with 3 hotels, numerous pools, beautiful beach, aquariums, a slide that goes through a shark tank, great pools. I got to stay there for a week 2 years ago. It felt like a cruise ship on land--you should not miss it. In april i decided to see cable beach, it was so ordinary compared to atlantis. you get one opportunity to see this great property!

And Some Good Replies As Well. Sounds Nice.

My Question Is, Are Some Of You Guys Checking Into The Hotel And Then Heading Back To The Ship In 6 Hours (i.e. Glory)

That Really Sounds Expensive.

This Looks Like A Big Vegas Casino To Me. A Nice One At That Though.

The grounds are VERY well maintained. There are diverse facilities. The aquarium is pretty "neat" and fish feeding time is fun to watch. You used to be able to get a "day pass" wrist band and you didn't have to have a room at the hotel. I think the biggest reason it is so popular is that it is VERY close to the cruise ship dock and most calls at Nassau are not for the whole day and most beaches are not real close to the pier, so.....instead of spending a good piece of change to get to a beach that you arent' going to be able to spend a whole lot of time at, it makes for a good "beach trip" which is real close and offers several other options other than just sitting on the beach.

A room at a hotel for a few hours in order to use the facilities is cheaper than the ship bought Atlantis excursion that doesn't include full pool and slide access.

when I called atlantis to request a day room, they thought I was nuts. The cheapest room overnight is $305 so how exactly can this be done. It would be nice to be able to change and have a nice a/c room when you are tired in the sun. Thanks for any help.

Book a room across the street at the Comfort Suites Hotel. You can get a room under $200. Up to 4 ppl max per room which in turn will get you 4 wristbands for use of all facilities at Atlantis. If you only have 2ppl you will only get 2 wristbands. 6ppl you will need to get 2 rooms.

I currently have a room booked at the Comfort Suites. I understand that I will be given 4 wristbands.

It looks like there might be more than the four of us. I tried to book another room, but there is no availability.

My question: Will the Comfort Suites (knowing that we are there only for the day) sell us additional wristbands?

thanks.

No.. the Comfort Suites doesn't have anything to SELL except a room. They give you a room card for each room with the # of guests on the card. The towel hut at Atlantis can give UP TO 4 bracelets per room card. Comfort Suites is as strict as Atlantis about this kinda thing. They may let you pay for 2 rooms.. even though there isn't one "technically" available. But you will have to pay full price for the room. If you have very young kids. (2ish) they may make an exception ..

Yeah...that is what I meant. Selling us another room (ie: wristbands).

Has anyone ever purchased these rooms? "That'll be $200, and no you do not have a room, because we are booked?"

Thanks.
