Legend of the Seas – recent feedback/opinion requested – “new” to RCCL

Recommended Posts

I never smelled sewage on this Legend sailing. We often walked the length of Decks 8 and my sons Deck 6. The one saving grace I suppose. :D Actually with all the cleaning after the previous noro ship, it smelled very clean. They were even washing the walls and doors on a daily basis for at least four days after we boarded.

:) yes my wife is going to make sure we exercise and walk on our Aruba sailing. So far I haven't sailed with an outbreak (recent or ongoing)....hope my fortunes continue! I guess sailing a week or 2 after may be better due to extensive cleaning? :)

Panama Canal is on my bucket list as well....that is one reason I want to do a 10 nighter first ...see how we do so that in the future we can do a 14/15 night Panama crossing.

We loved our Panama Canal crossing cruise. It was from San Diego to Miami--but, on Celebrity.

It was 3 yrs ago and we could only afford an inside for the 14 day cruise. It still ranks as one of our favorite cruises. For us the ship /cabin is not the most important thing. We go for the ports. what I like about the Panama Canal cruise is the rhythm. The ports and sea days work out to about every other day. Very relaxing--yet, plenty to do

From our RH roll call what some other folks think.

Thank you for your reports. I am interested to hear if you get a response from RCI. I sent an email regarding our Legend experience to Adam Goldstein and a letter to Customer Relations on November 29. Have not heard back, which is unacceptable, and I will follow through. :(

We have unloaded 2 of our 4 future Legend cruises, and are waiting for more sailings to open so we can swap the other 2.

I completely agree with you on the Loyalty Ambassador staff. I have never seen such a total lack of acknowledgment or even attention to future cruise bookings. We had a deadline while onboard to address the redeployment of Rhapsody issue. We had to rebook our May, 2015 sailing by November 22 or lose the price protection/OBC. The LA emailed Miami, and never told me the response. After waiting 2 days, I talked to her assistant, who found a general announcement about how to proceed. No offer to help with the rebooking, no apology for not getting back to me. I got the feeling I was bothering them. I called from our stateroom phone to rebook the cruise.

After our experience on Legend, I was very hesitant to go on Freedom, just 10 days later. I am so glad we had this Freedom b2b cruise booked so close to the Legend, as it was such a completely opposite experience, and was what we normally expect and get from RCI.

Sorry for the long-winded response. There has been much discussion on the Legend since its arrival back in the States.

I agree with Karen, the Legend Panama Canal cruise was just not up to what I have always experienced on RCL. The embark in San Diego was the worst I've ever encountered (not RCL staff, but still RCL has final responsibility). After the first day we started calling it the Training Ship of the Seas. Service was not consistent, except we got used to the dining room being out of standard items (sour cream, horseradish, iced tea) as well as fresh produce and often the wait staff at breakfast & lunch would only do the bare minimum to meet requests. Half of the machines in the casino were out of commission, one crew member worked on them off & on during our cruise and about day 12 of 15 brought a few new games online, another third or so were still off line. The feeling we had throughout the cruise was that it was being used a time to train staff and work on the ship. There were some great staff, such as my cabin steward, and room service for breakfast was always well done. We had a nuro concern, that was handled very well. Loyalty Ambassador staff would not address an issue I was having with my points, was told they were there to book next cruises. The transit thru the canal was great, but I would recommend skipping the long cruises and just do the canal. Fortunately I already have my next 2 cruises already booked, because with the changes in rates for solos I may not be cruising much in the future.

But that is all behind and now I am working on finalizing my flights etc. for the Rhapsody. Disappointed that with the short time in port on Kauai that you have to choose between the canyon, the river cruise and the valley, can't do 2 or 3. In Kona I'm looking at renting a car, since I've already done the shore excursions offered. Also in Maui it seems I'll have to find a private tour group (I have one I've used before that was outstanding) if I want to do the crater at sunset. Oh well, lots of time to make plans.

Merry Christmas to all, I'm playing Hawaii Christmas carols :)
