Travel insurance for a gift cruise?

I guess I've got a question before we can answer your question.

Are you looking to insure your investment in this cruise? Or are you trying to insure your daughter against any unexpected events while she is on the cruise?

Are you traveling on this cruise with her?

It does not matter who actually pays for the insurance. (I purchased insurance for the cruise for my daughter's family last year.) I just bought travel insurance yesterday and the lady told me the only things they really care about is the age of the traveler and the length of the time being insured.

I have to wait until their office (Travelsafe) is open to confirm, but it looks like I may be able to substitute her name for my husband's name on the insurance we already purchased. DH needs to stay home. The cruise isn't expensive -- just a seven day in an outside stateroom, but traveling in January from the Northeast and going to Aruba, I'd feel better if she had some protection. Princess allowed me to change names on the cruise booking. -- Will report back on what Travelsafe tells me.

Thanks.

I don't think it matters who paid for the cruise. As long as the invoice can be scraped up showing the reservation on it, it can be covered.

Even if the cruise was truly free (i.e. won in a contest), you can still purchase insurance for things like travel medical/medevac, trip delay, or help getting home if your return flight is canceled.

Well, I just got off the phone with Travelsafe. I wasn't able to change the name on the policy. I have to buy a new one for DD.

You are all correct. As long as her name is on the invoice for the cruise and the plane ticket, even if I paid for them, she would be covered.
