What do you buy onboard?

Trying to budget, would like to have plenty of money for a few frivolous purchases. Sailing on the sunshine this week. I won't buy expensive watches and jewelry on board, but think I will want shirts, milkshakes, maybe perfume etc... Already budgeted for all other items! What do you buy from the funshops and other onboard venues? What do you pay? Not interested in restaurant prices!

...Pictures. Yep...we always buy lots of pictures. We always say we won't buy a lot of pictures next time. But next cruise comes around and we buy them--pictures...lots of pictures...Of course, we jump in front of every photo backdrop (well, except the Titanic staircase--won't do that one).

I bought off brand Pandora type charm bracelets for my girls and myself when they had a huge sale one morning. I also bought some chains for various necklace pendants I have when they had the silver and gold by the inch, the prices varied depending on which chain you bought.

You might want a few photos.

What you spend is really individual. My husband and I spent a total of $350 on our first cruise (5 day), that included shop purchases, photos, drinks, everything. We prepaid gratuities.

Not much.

We always buy the embarkation photo. Sometimes DH will buy the soda package and I buy a few cocktails. That is it.

Oh, DH does make nightly donations to the casino. :D

Yes, thats for sure. its junk.

I have enough 14kt gold that I dont wear.

Amazing to see the lines of females thinking they are getting a bargain of gold by the inch.

Suspect they will not do this on their next cruise. lol

I buy a magnet of the ship, usually a couple of tshirts, maybe a hat for dh, some DODs and photos. For the photos I always go on the last day and get the 8x10 book that fits one picture and comes with a picture of the ship, they don't even have it out before the last day but when they put it out it's only $5, so I love that I have one frome very ship. I also got this shell jewelry on my last 2 cruises, it's a blueish greenish shell set in silver, cruise before last I got a ring and a necklace, and last cruise got matching earrings. I love wearing it because it reminds me of my cruises and I love that I was able to get matching pieces on different ships in different years. And it's not the by the inch stuff so it's actually quality.

That jewelry set sounds really pretty.

Funny you should mention milkshakes. You can, if you like, get milkshakes frim the specialty coffee shop. Or, do what I do. I take a Tervis tumbler with me, and, along with other beverages, I'll get some soft-serve ice cream (free from the ice cream machine), a carton of milk from the buffet, and make my own milkshake. True, I'm limited to chocolate or vanilla ice cream, but hey, it's a free milkshake.;) As for t-shirts, like someone else mentioned, there'll be a sale the last day of the cruise. Get there early for best selection (before everything is picked over). Same with any jewelry sales you might be interested in. Stay away from the inch of gold sale. It's a waste of money.

How much do they discount shirts and perfumes at the end?? Any other sales that happen? Thanks!

The t-shirts are usually a buy 2 for a certain price but it is usually much cheaper but not every shirt is included in that sale. I have seen them put them on a table in different locations on the last sea day. I would wait until then to purchase t-shirts.

As others have said, gold by the inch is junk. I wish I could say different but I can't. Even though there are lines to buy it, they are all first time (and last time) purchases. They are great for a week or so and then some one will ask you why your hands are black.

Would also agree that the Sherridan is a good buy. You can serve it to company and you will get all kinds of compliments. It is also very unique and different.

Watches are so-so. They usually have the bands that are not expandable. You have to take out a notch if it is too big. You also snap it to close it. I don't care for that at all.

I like to buy the Carnival logo items but only on sail (I know, I spelt that purposely since it is a cruise ship) and they are expensive. Last cruise, they didn't have many sails and I ended up buying no clothes.

One thing I don't like about shopping in the ship store is that many items are not priced. It's the banter type sale. Nice in Europe and other countries but I like the US way.

Other than that there are many items that you just have to have. You know, like a glass cat, a candy bar, tiny expensive wood ship models of the cruise ships, diamonds, gold and pearls.
