How do Aussies get OBC?

Recommended Posts

I booked my first cruise because it was an advertised in the Sunday paper with a special fare and on board credit.

For future cruises, just wondered, apart from advertised specials, how else can you get OBC?

if you book with an online agent they do have obc and they can normally beat the cruise lines price....due to CC rules we cant mention names but when you go on your cruise ask your fellow passengers who they book with and write it down and subscribe to the company and you'll get their specials

if you have a look on the main page under cruise deals some of the sponsors advertise there......be careful who you book with because some companies have a non refundable deposit or they charge $150 per person if you cancel out and thats on top if the cruise line charges a fee

The best way to get a decent amount of OBC is to book through a US TA. They are very generous. But..... You do have to take the decreasing $ into the costings.

Another way to get OBC is to buy shares in either Carnival, or RCCL, depending on which cruise line you chose to sail with. If you have military service you may also be eligible for a nice bit of OBC also. Buy a future cruise certificate when on board and you will get OBC.

I know of a few Americans who get so much OBC they don't spend it all and redraw their credit through the Casino.

Yes, the reason I asked the question is because I have read so many posts on CC by Americans talking about their OBC. They do seem to get alot.

I get onboard credit from Carnival branded ships. On the next Cunard one there is $250 USD. Purchased the shares last year when Aussie dollar was high. The falling Aussie dollar and a share price rise, share dividends and the OBC have turned into a nice little profit.

I'm getting $200 OBC from the US travel agent for the Celebrity cruise in July. Just because he gave it. Plus the 123 alcoholic drink package means no bill for us at the end of the cruise.

That is interesting. Do you know how much OBC Aust shareholders in RCCL get? I've never seen an option to declare a shareholding when booking online with RCCL- is it something you need to arrange via telephone booking?
