Is there anyone who has done this cruise that can tell me anything about the 1 nighter other than it is a big party cruise??????? Is there a Freestyle Daily, are there any shows, what is so much different other than the length? I'm trying to get a newbie to cruising's feet wet on a 1 day........ I'm assuming the embarking and disembarking is no different time wise than a 7 day? Is a passport needed? What else can anyone offer.........Thank You all

Yes, there is a Freestyle Daily which you'll get in the terminal before you board the ship. There are a few shows in the theater.

US citizens can board with a photo ID--we use a driver's license and have never had a problem.

There is a lot of partying--bachelorette parties, etc. but always a surprising age variety too.

Embarkation and debarkation are the same. Debarkation: new for CTN in 2013 was needing to fill out a customs card which you hand over once off the ship--but you don't show ID at that point.

Many will say it's not a good way to see what a cruise is like, which may be true, but I think it at least shows someone all that a cruise ship has to offer. I had a first timer with us on the Carnival Glory's 2 nighter last August and she said she now understands why I like cruising--from the dining to the shows to the just sitting on the balcony.

There are a lot of threads on this topic if you do a search for CTN. :)

Bottom line is they are fun and I go on as many as I can!

Thank You Lori!!!!!!!!! It's about as I had figured!!!!! I too hate missing out on a cruise, although I'd prefer a 7 night vs a 1 night. But it's better than nothing till my 14 day in November!!!!!!! I have an embarrassing question.......what is CTN??????? Sorry........Not up to par on that one!!:

CTN = Cruise to Nowhere!! :)

And I agree--it's better than no cruise at all!

We are doing the February 7th one it will be our first ever CTN. From what I've read its more partying and just trying to get it all in during the 18-22 hours or so that you are onboard. I've heard the casino's are extra smokey. There is a main show that is shown once, comedy show, white hot party etc.

We will be traveling with friends who got married on the Gem about 3 years ago and 2 people who are new to cruising. Celebrating my birthday and my friends birthday. It was a no brainier to book and like you said its better than no cruise. The one couple coming that has never cruised before always wants to try it out but her husband isn't sure as he has bad memories of being on ships in the navy so its a perfect chance for them to check it out.

I've always used my DL for id on all my CTN. this last one (1/10) the guy checking me in actually asked me if I had my passport with me. I told him no, I left it home. I asked him why would you ask me for it. He said it makes checking someone in faster bc they can scan the passport. The DL they input all the info. I'll still use my DL on my future CTN's. I only use my passport on longer cruises leaving the US.

Yup. Agree. Why carry passport if I don't need to. But good to know that it's quicker. Agree that this weekend I will be using DL only. I think if you hand over the cruise ticket, cc and license, it's pretty quick anyway.

Last CTN I did in December the check-in lady told me they now have a certain field they fill in for people who are using DL as ID--I suppose the might as well get used to it with all the CTNs this season!

Yet some people in threads and on roll calls continue to talk about needing the birth certificate too. Maybe if they're not US citizens. But like you I have never needed the birth cert when using my DL for CTN. Less to keep track of for sure!

I was looking at the one day CTN just for a quick getaway but the taxes and fees turned me off. The fees are higher for 1 day than for some 7 days. I just don't understand it.

Still less $ than overnight in NYC with meals and shows! :)

I wish I was going on this weekends CTN. I'm keeping my eye on the March one. Hopefully the prices drop like these last few have. This last CTN I booked on Wed and left Fri. I don't think the April CTN will drop as low as the last few have. The weather will be nicer. I have a 7 day booked for April so I think I'll be satisfied

With my cruise fix for that month :p lol have fun this weekend!

Too true for us. We had to make an emergency trip to NYC last month and spent the first night on Gem CTN as it was cheaper than the hotel.

We were not party people but it gave us a chance to relax and unwind - lunch, cocktails, nap, cocktails, dinner (Cagney's), show, gambling, good night's sleep, breakfast and we left at 10am.

Another thing about that CTN ... it brought us closer to our Sun cruise next week!

I did a CTN in October to get my feet wet, as you say. I'm going on my first "real" cruise in March (aboard the Breakaway), but I wanted to get a feel for the whole cruising thing, so I did a CTN. If you look in my signature, you'll find a link to my thoughts on the overnighter... which I would do again in a heartbeat. In fact, I MIGHT just wind up doing the February one!

The 2/2014 on NCL Gem is going for $34 pp before taxes..that is a great price....I booked the 3/14 through CAS and had to only pay taxes....

$184.33 for 2. It gives a newbie a good sense of a cruise. Not all the fun inbetween but at least a sense.
