Cheers program limit!!!!!

I know you can't get a cheers drink and hand it to someone else and I have no issues with that rule. If I want to buy my mom or dad or sister or whoever I am cruising with a drink I would pay full price for it. I just think it is stupid that if I have had 15 (which I can't imagine on a non-sea day) that i then can't buy say my mom and dad a glass of wine and a beer and pay for both

Apparently you do have an issue with the rule. But it is their rule. And you have options. YOu don't have to buy the Cheers program. The rules are very clear. Or you can always sail with another line where you like the rules that are in place.

Whether you are intoxicated on 15 drinks will be dependent on how you space out your drinks. If you drink 1 drink and hour for 15 hours, you would not be intoxicated under the law. However, if you drank you 15 in a short period of time, then you can be... Again, being intoxicated under the law is for driving a car, just because your blood alcohol level is above a limit for driving, it does not mean you are falling down drunk. The issue people have with this limit is that if you do not purchase the cheers program, you can have more the 15...

One more point, was the girl who fell, on the cheers program? Or was she paying for each drink and still got intoxicated... Just becuase she was drunk does not mean that people on the cheers program will all be falling down if they have more the 15 drinks...

You can certainly get arrested for being "drunk and disorderly" so the law isn't just for operation of a motor vehicle. Whether or not to keep serving someone alcohol, whether on land or sea, does fall to the bartender or the server. You can't argue that someone who chooses to get drunk is only harming themselves. Many people get more aggressive when drunk, some get "fearless" and do crazy stuff that will endanger themselves and those around them. I don't know if carnival has a rule to refuse alcohol to a guest who is noticeably impaired or not. I'm thinking, they just might. It can't be a clear cut number, because, as mentioned, each persons limit is different. Should people have the good sense to know their limit? Absolutely! Do they abide by it? Nope, if they did, we wouldn't have drunk driving accidents that kill people every year. So, I would hope Carnival has a "unspoken" policy to protect those who don't have the good sense to protect themselves...

Hi all,

I'm going to get flamed for this..but I think 15 drinks a day is perfectly reasonable. In my opinion, 'Drinking your moneys worth' is never a good idea. Also, if they didn't have a limit, people would certainly abuse the program ( using the program to buy for others, etc... ).

I also have to chuckle a bit at the '1 drink every hour' defense. Many will use that as an excuse to drink more....and completely ruin their vacation.

However, my experience is mostly at mexican all-inclusives, etc... Do they mix the drinks weak on Carnival? If they mix REALLY weak, the maybe I can see 15 a day, but not likely.

Actually, that's the seller's business as well. The seller get's to decide how much profit they want to make from a product sold.

I don't disagree with that statement but that doesn't mean I don't think carnival is stupid for refusing more revenue

With the exception of number one, it's entirely up to you as to how and where you spend your vacation dollars but until you're the CEO of Carnival, it is not up to you as to the rules they decide to have. So whether you want e-cigs to be able to be used anywhere doesn't really matter nor the reason behind why they put a limit to a program. It is what it is and you have the choice to purchase a cruise with those rules in place or not purchase a cruise and spend you money elsewhere.

I am aware...however got stalked by another user who followed me over here from another thread just to be contrAry. And I do disagree with the e-cig rule and would ignore if I chose to cruise carnival

My wife and her sister are on the Legend this week. They are going to purchase the Cheers and see how much they drink. They are not going out of their way to drink any more or less than they would on any other cruise. I will let you now how it goes for them.

I know I have hit the 15 drink max on sea days and not been drunk. I did not have the cheers program at that time. I like to drink scotch so it pays for itself after six or seven drinks.

In my estimation, you are the person the program is designed for. You are an experienced drinker and most likely drink pretty heavily at home. You sound like you are well aware of your limits and that's great. You stated that you've purchased 15 drinks on sea days without the program. You aren't the cheers participant I'm worried about... It's the person who doesn't know their limits, who doesn't drink a lot or often and then decides to buy the program and "get their money's worth". Those are the folks that will be falling down drunk and if there were no limits would choose to continue until they passed out. That's when the "Fun Ship" becomes a whole lot less fun for the rest of us. They have to establish rules for the immature who would see no rules on their own.

15 drinks a day=

A Bloody Mary and Mimosa at breakfast 2

couple mixed drinks at the pool 2

couple mixed drinks at lunch 2

couple beers at the casino 2

Another drink at the pool 1

few glasses of wine at dinner 2

A drink at the show 1

few shots after the show 2

nightcap 1

And that's a sea day.

You also have the bottle your brought onboard, plus a few opportunities for a free drink(auction). Plus someone else without the package could buy you a drink.

I personally can't fathom the idea of drinking that much. Not only the alcohol, but that's up to 3000 empty calories! No wonder people gain so much weight on cruises.

Maybe you should look at the current promotion from Celebrity with free drinks package included. http://www.celebritycruises.com/genericHtmlTemplate.do?icid=hp_cr2_123g_1311_s1go_lk_446917&pagename=choose_your_offer

Exactly...We went on a Celebrity cruise with the free drink plan last year. We even paid a bit extra to upgrade to their 'premium' plan. Surprisingly, we did not drink nearly as much as we thought we would. Instead, we splurged on some very expensive drinks we would never otherwise purchase. Celebrity has some very nice 'mixology' type martini bars that have $20-$25 drinks. It was nice to have the free plan. However, I'm not so sure I would pay full price for it.

That being said, we did see a fellow with the plan that was sloshed out of his mind. It was a sad sight to see. Obviously was 'trying to get his moneys worth'...

Of course, Celebrity cruises are usually more expensive to begin with so you have to do the math there too.

Oh and there are TONS of threads over on the Celebrity board regarding the worthiness of the drink plans, etc...

When that wonderful young genius of a women " fell " off her balcony there was no cheers program in 2012.

If 15 alcoholic drinks a day is not enough for you that's the equivalent of a half a bottle of whiskey a day if you think you need more, you have some issues

Some days sure...Some days like football Sundays where I am having beer from 12:00 noon to 10:00 at night I could easily hit the 15 drink limit...Beer doesn't have near the alcohol content that a 1/2 bottle of whiskey does...The equivalent would be about a case which is 24

I would recommend the Foster's. 15 of those is 31 twelve ounce beers. I don't buy cheers but get a bucket of Foster's.

Fifteen drinks a day on a seven day cruise is bound to blow your liver out. I have read that even if you don't feel the alcohols' effects or get drunk, the damage is still being done.

Okay, the damage is also being done eating guys burgers, bacon, lobster dipped in butter.. I would say at least 75% of the people on a cruise either eat things or drink things that are not good for your health.. Most people are not like you, and just eat cereal, salads, etc.. that is good for you. Most of us over indulge for this one week on vacation and enjoy ourselves, then get back to eating and drinking more normally when we return from vacation. If you drink to excess you hurt your liver, if you eat to excess or eat bad things, you hurt your heart.. Most of us do it on vacation to some extent

Ugh. I know it won't get you hammered but beer makes me feel so bloated. I could never put 15 of them away.

Having used the Cheers program, I will never look back. Its an extremely reliable way of budgeting out how much your bar tab will be at the end of the cruise. We got to the limit a couple of times on our last cruise and the bartenders were VERY GOOD about telling us when we were getting close to 15 so that we could purchase more before being shut off.

I am thinking of doing the cheers program and I will never drink 15 drinks but because my husband is getting the program, I have to as well. Anyways, I noticed that it includes Non-alcoholic frozen drinks so if I'm understanding what people are saying, if I order me 3 alcohol concoctions, then 4 NA frozen concoctions for the kids, then I will have 7 against my 15 limit? If that's the case, then I'm fine with it considering we spent over $200 just on NA frozen drinks for the kids last time; however, if they aren't going to let me order the frozen drinks under my cheers program, then that might be a problem.

Just wondering how this might work and the whole, you can only order 1 at a time rule. Thanks

I don't have a problem with the Cheers program, but I do think Carnival should consider some kind of red flag system that alerts bartenders when a cruiser reaches, say drink #6 or 7.

At that point maybe the remaining drinks up to 15 can only be served and consumed in ones cabin? Or perhaps bartenders might then be instructed to administer a quick BAC blow test to anyone ordering drink #7 thru 15 on a given day, and cut off at 0.15 or some other Carnival determined BAC, just until they sober up a little.

My only point being is that everyone's body and tolerance is different so, it's difficult to assign some arbitrary daily drink # cap. But at the same time we cannot have cruisers getting fall-down, punch-out drunk ruining others folks vacations.

Other suggestions? I think it's a discussion worth having.
