unclerich Posted January 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Quick answer - Yes, but slower than you're used to on land, and can get expensive. Cabin WiFi connection less reliable than public hotspots (usually). Keeping your cabin door open will usually improve connectivity. Here's the info from Holland America Internet Access Guests can connect to the internet via satellite link 24 hours a day, satellite conditions permitting on each ship in the Holland America Line fleet, either by accessing a 24/7 wireless connection "hotspot", or utilizing the resources of the Explorations Café or Internet Café located on board. Wireless Internet Service Each Holland America Line vessel offers wireless internet service in most public lounges throughout the ship. Guests may use their laptop computer or other wireless internet enable device to connect to the wireless internet service on board. IPhone and Android phone users will enjoy our easy-to-navigate mobile friendly login. Internet Plans vary in price to accommodate individual needs and are interchangeable between the private computer terminals available 24-hours a day in the Explorations Café and your wireless device. Explorations Café or Internet Café Internet Service The Explorations Café, powered by The New York Times offers a comfortable, coffee house environment where you can access the internet via the onboard computers or via your own wireless internet device, such as a laptop computer, iPad or iPhone. Explorations Café or Internet Café pricing below is subject to change without prior notice. Please inquire on board for current prices. One-time Activation Fee of $3.95 applies to each user. Basic time charge $0.75 per minute, pay as you go, or purchase a Discounted Time Plan 250 minutes for $100.00, $0.40 per minute 100 minutes for $55.00, $0.55 per minute Time Plan minutes can be used anytime throughout the cruise. catl331 Posted January 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Best bet is to type up ahead of time, off line, what you want to send so you don't spend much time on wi fi. Also same for looking at your mail--down load it and then read it off line. HAL has a new contract for wifi connections and is experiencing trouble which should be ironed out soon. HOPE! jtl513 Posted January 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2014 The strength of your signal in the cabin will vary greatly depending on how close you are to a hallway repeater antenna.

Write your replies offline and queue them up. Log back on to send. While you will probably see a signal in your state room, you are almost always better off in a public area close to a hotspot. We were in room directly across from the Neptune Lounge where a hotspot was located. Even though we had a signal in the room, the xmit / recv speeds were much, much better in the Neptune. frankc98376 Posted January 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 25, 2014 I remember seeing last year that Zuiderdam had repeaters installed in many cabins and internet had improved. Has this changed with the new provider? When this came out last year all of the ships were supposed to be "upgraded" with better access in cabins. Has this changed with the new provider? So far we have only had reports about the new provider (Harris) on one ship - the Amsterdam, doing the GWV. First reports were pretty bad, but I read today that things are looking up there.
