sleepless Posted January 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) I am snowbound and freezing in southeast Michigan, hidden away between Ann Arbor and Detroit. I am home from school for my 6th snow day; expecting to still be home Tuesday and Wednesday because of severe wind chill. I work in a public school. My cruise on the Allure is not until June 29. Help me stay warm by sharing some of your fun Allure memories with me, as well as others who are trying to stay warm. Right now, June 29 seems a long, long way off. I have not been on the Allure, but have been on the Oasis. Reading some of your memories will help to warm the spirit and pass the time. acrn Posted January 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Have you read the review by Gambee on the Allure? That will entertain you for hours!!! Angie :)
sleepless Posted January 27, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Yes, I have read those reviews. I wasn't really looking for a full blown review. I was looking for a fun or good memory type of thing. Something that may have made your cruise special, that you wouldn't mind sharing.

Rare niksmom630 Posted January 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Loved Allure! One of the best RCI cruises I have taken to date. After 15 of them, the WOW factor had officially returned? My favorite memory was this view....
alfaeric Posted January 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Been on both Allure and Oasis, so likes from either that are on both... I know a lot has been said about the lack of outside views, but one of our favorite locations on the ship is Central Park. Either just sitting out there, or at one of the restaurants sitting out there. Evening in the dead of summer is very comfortable- what a great location to us. Going out to see a diving show at the aft of the ship is pretty amazing. We were fortunate to have the last Boardwalk Balcony, so we were also able to watch the show from our balcony. Oh, so very cool. I did one of the flow riders- very fun- maybe next time I'll try surfing on it. what else to distract us from this horrible weather we have. Geez, now I have to drive from Dearborn to A2. Well, in 20 min....

I am still sad about not making the cruise last year. I was looking forward to meeting you, and the others. Trivia pre-cruise was a lot of fun. Family is doing great. I am keeping an eye on the prices. Hoping to be able to up grade too, if not, our balcony cabin is waiting for us. The same one we had booked a year ago. I like reading about winning small jackpots in the casino. Gives me a reason to contribute to the little money eaters. I could do without the monsoon in Cozumel though. But then, hey, it is a memory. And all memories are good. Thanks for sharing. Denise

hairymelon Posted January 27, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I had a wonderful cruise on Allure with my daughter. It was so special. I loved the ship and my favourite place was Central Park. To sit there with the wind rustling the leaves of the trees and hearing the birdsong but knowing you were in the middle of an ocean was a definite WOW moment. Also, one night I sat outside in the Aqua Theatre and watched Finding Nemo on the big screen. It started raining.....warm rain and it just was a perfect evening which was fun and very unique. I could go on and on about the wonderful crew, our amazing cabin attendant etc and feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin. A special holiday indeed :D
sleepless Posted January 27, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Alfric, DH drives from home to Dearborn every day. The drive has been nerve shattering for him for the past couple of weeks. I am luckier, the school I work at is only 5 miles from home, down 2 country roads. Much easier. (When we have school.) I love Central Park. When on Oasis, I would walk through there is wonderment, knowing that I was in the middle of the ocean. Breathtaking and beautiful. I can feel the sun warming we a little as I write this. CruisinRoxy Posted January 27, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 27, 2014 The title of this thread caught my eye - we are going in April, week before Easter. I am sitting here in minus-whatever wind chills near Buffalo NY (after awhile you become numb to the numbers) Really loved the wake picture by a previous poster! Got any more? Rare Dolby1000 Posted January 27, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Sitting out on our balcony (yes, we are balcony snobs), enjoying our daily lunch of a certain roast beef sandwich (or two, or, well, maybe I won't confess to that). Loving the warm sunshine, the blue water and just relaxing with no computer or cell phone to interrupt things. That's it, I've convinced myself, we return to the Allure on April, 6th, 2014. ktbr11crs Posted January 27, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2014 A highlight for us was going to the Prohibition Event. There were quite a few people there who dressed up at least a little; especially the ladies with feather boas! They did a great job of getting people involved and out dancing; probably the first time I've been out on a dance floor with about 20 other women doing the Charleston. It was definitely worth the $35; fun and the drinks flowed freely! Since we went on the January 5th sailing, we really appreciated getting out of MN because the 6th was the coldest day of the winter so far. Unfortunately, it looks like Mother Nature is trying to get back at us by bringing the cold weather back this week!
relaxatsea Posted January 27, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Hi Michigander! I'm originally from Detroit. My DH and I were on the Allure (for our second time) this past November. Here were some of the (many) things we enjoyed: Our Boardwalk Balcony cabin with the views of the ocean and the Aquatheatre. The concerts under the stars in Central Park. The Character Breakfast in the MDR (plus it is a CHOCOLATE breakfast!). Captain Johnny and his great personality. Hanging out by the pool. The Promenade Café and the parades there. Johnny Rockets for breakfast (delicious and free). Enjoy and stay warm!
Rare Familygoboston Posted January 28, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Brrr! I don't blame you for wanting to warm up:p My whole review is linked, tons of pics, if you haven't seen it yet. But here is my idea of the ideal sea day: Close your eyes, leave the cold behind and imagine being gently rocked awake in your cabin... Sleep in a bit (but not too long;)) then we get into our suits and sunscreen, throw on a cover up and head straight for the solarium. Allure (and OA) have the best solarium, because they are huge and you usually don't have to look to hard for a lounger. In fact, we go to the Solarium cafe for breakfast and don't bother putting our towels down till after breakfast when we are ready to relax, and there are always a couple of chairs together. The ones right up by the window go fastest, but I find there is a lot of foot traffic right behind your head (this interferes with my mid morning nap:eek:) My favorite place to go is up the stairs, there are two cantilevered decks above the solarium, next to the solarium bar that have about 12 loungers each on them. They are out of the traffic flow, and have a panoramic view of the solarium as well as out the windows beyond...heaven. Maybe a cold beverage, if that's your thing? I usually have good intentions of reading, so I open my magazine or book. DH heads down to the Promenade to get a "good" coffee at the Starbucks. By the time he returns I'm usually snoozing, and wake up to chat and try that book again. Reapply that sunscreen...we don't want to burn!:D At about 1 PM, we might decide its' time to go check out the Belly Flop contest. SInce we are on the upper decks forward, we walk through the lively pool area and descend a couple of decks to the "secret" deck on 11 aft. From here we can usually get a chair by the glass panels and see below and the video boards where all the really BIG action takes place. Because we don't care to have a seat in the AT, we can show up just as the show starts and leave unobtrusively if it flags! But the "talent" doesn't disappoint, and the belly flop contest is one of our "embrace the kitsch" moments we like to enjoy on a Royal cruise. Before the winner is crowned and the gang at the AT leaves to find food, we head to Central Park on 6 for lunch at the Park Cafe. A nice salad and bag of sun chips for me, panninis and soup for the husband. Usually by 2 ish, we have no trouble finding a comfy chair in CP to relax and eat and soak up some more sun. After straffing the dessert case once (or twice), it's back to the cabin to relax on our balcony, which inevtiably leads to more napping:o Usually, we awaken right before sunset, 4 to 5 ish, so it;s back to the balcony to get some sunset shots and tag team getting ready for dinner. If it's a sea day, there's a good chance it's formal night, so I spend some time putting on my pretty face and then we head out to the Royal Promenade to see what appeals before dinner...a drink in the Rising Tide? A visit to the Diamond Lounge (the most crowded place on board at that hour), maybe we stop for a few photos in the tucked away photo stations. Or if we did that yesterday, stop at the photo shop to see how they turned out on one of the kiosk. We head to MTD and sail in without a wait, seated with our friendly waiters from the night before, we enjoy a dinner paced to our needs. One of our needs is we have reservations for Blue Planet at 9. The show is amazing, and we are glad we chose seats in the mezzanine level to fully enjoy all the action all around us! After the show dessert is a nice Kahlua and coffee at the Schooner Bar, and then we get to contemplate all the late night options...ahh..which to choose?! Jazz on 4?, singers in Central Park and a drink at Vintages? Dancing in the Solarium? A shake at Johnny Rockets on the Boardwalk? Just another exciting night cruising on Allure:D
Scribbles77 Posted January 28, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I LOVE the Allure :D My favourite parts, the beach pool where i could lay on my lounger and still have my feet in the water cooling me down and A later dinner at Giovannis (sitting outside) under the stars with the live music from the park right next to us x

olya1972 Posted February 5, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 5, 2014 On our January, 26th, 2014 sailing I went to Central Park on the first morning at sea. I got a cup of coffee and sat on the bench. Park was almost empty, very quiet safe for birds chirping. Gardener was watering the plants. Sky above me was so peaceful. I just sat there in awe, overwhelmed with emotions. Such a beauty. An oasis of land in the ocean , created by men and I can be there to be part of it. That thought brought tears to my eyes.
treesah Posted February 5, 2014 #19 Share Posted February 5, 2014 It's a magnificent ship. I'm not a fan of "monster of the seas" type of ships but the Allure kept me entertained for days. Loved the energy and enthusiasm of the crew and the passengers! Our accommodations were great (Central Park), the food was good, service was excellent, our waiter was exceptional and the entertainment was the best I've ever seen. My expectations were met and exceeded.
