Are Bayport cruises always problematic?

.... Are sailings out of Bayport always affected by fog? I've read numerous posts about numerous delays/disruptions over the past couple of months. The itinerary is appealing, as well as the perks offered. My only concern is that fog seems to be the thorn in Bayport's side.

OP, are you really asking if the Houston area has fog issues each and every weekend of the year? I can't believe anyone would actually ask that. Perhaps you misstated what you wanted to know.

I've tried several times to book a cruise out of both Galveston and Bayport but every time that I look for flights, I find that flying costs are much higher than any other U.S. port. I can fly from SFO to NYC, Boston, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and New Orleans ALL for less than out of the Texas gulf ports. Apparently Texas (maybe it's just Houston) has airport rates, perhaps due to taxes that are higher than most all other major airports.

I have many more options and variety out of other east coast ports so I'll not bother with Houston just to go to Mexico.

If anyone can explain to me why Houston airports cost more to fly into than others, it would be gladly appreciated if you could share your knowledge.

It is spelled C O M P E T I T I O N.

Houston as a destination is not a tourist mecca by any means. It is a destination for business travelers. While tourists certainly do fly into Houston, the majority are on business trips. If you are looking for a non-stop flight which is what business travelers want, you are going to pay.

This is a bad winter for south Texas in general and the cruise industry out of Bayport/Galveston as well as the airline industry using IAH or HOU are being hit harder than usual. Let us hope it returns to a more normal winter next year.

Mother Nature has spoken and we will all obey her wishes so bundle up and hope for a better year.

I have only done 1 cruise out of Texas and didn't think much of that port. I wish Princess would bring would bring 1 of their ships to Tampa to do the Western Caribbean ports. Better airport and better cruise port. i live near Tampa and not crazy about the ships sailing from that port. i AM a little biased.

Obviously the Houston area doesn't have fog issues each and every weekend of the year. But since the initiation of Princess cruising from Bayport, fog has been a leading cause of delays and disruptions. Hence my question.

Sorry you find that to be such an incredulous question to ask of those in the know.

Its not new...

Princess has been dealing with it for a few years now.

Its just a carry over from Galveston.

Yes, go on that casino offer from Princess. We just disembarked from the Caribbean Princess today ( one day early)....There was a lot of drama on the ship from folks fearing the dreaded noro, but I think there were nore folks suffering seasickness than noro due to the very unusual rough seas when we went into the cold front. It has been a very cold winter here in Houston.

The casino offer was the best: first they give you cash to spend in the casino depending on your level of play. They they sent a bottle of nice Champagne mid trip. they sent a pretty beach towel and wine picnic set that was insulated also to our room. Had many free drawings and offers. They had a nice welcome cocktail party at the beginning of the trip. Complimentary drinks in the casino for the entire trip and believe me, they did not skimp...They made certain that your glass was always filled and you could have whatever you wanted. Payouts were good. I walked away with $150 but a friend left with $3000( she was playing a penny machine)..I played the same 25 cent machine the entire trip...

I can't wait for their next casino offer....

eclue:)

The main thing I didn't like about Houston was the the limited alcohol at the port due to Texas laws. Only limited beer and wine and only limited generic liquor. No champagne for our first drink ritual or any pre dinner martinis.

We brought champagne on board and had sailaway bubbly on both our B2B cruises in December. Neither of these were delayed.

Nor were our 6 other bottles of champagne charged or even challenged... you'd think by reading all the Corkage Fee threads, that Houston would be a favorite port with the carry-on wine crowd.

Well, fog is rather often a problem, unfortunately (very different from "always," which was asked). Even more, the narrow and long channel worsens the effect.

Thank you for reinforcing my decision to book! :D I think you almost described verbatim the offer I received. It's great to hear that you were treated with such hospitality and appreciation. I'm not a big gambler by any means, but found the casino offer quite generous(all of the perks you mentioned above plus $250 in casino cash).

For the same reason those of us who live near Bayport have the same love for that port. Yes you are biased and so are we for Bayport!
