Monterey 17 mile drive are there taxis?

We will be in Monterey on a Pacific coast cruise and want to do the 17 mile drive. Are there taxis available at the port that will take you there? Do we need to book it through the cruise line? Are there rental cars?

I don't think I've ever seen that many cabs in Monterey. I'd also be wary of their prices (might be cheaper to get a town car for a 1/2 day - then you'll be sure you have transportation).

Good idea. That way, you can stop at the Pebble Beach GC and look around. And, you won't have to rush through the drive watching the meter ticking up:)

Do not forget to check the entrance fee to get into 17 mile drive. The beach is nice in Carmel and shopping too, lots of nice restaurants for lunch. You could probably go to Fontana for lunch in Big Sur and this is a nice drive without entrance fee.
