TERRIER1 Posted January 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2014 We will be cruising B2B in June in Greece and Turkey. Can anyone who visited these ports provide any advice, suggestions, etc as to whether we should: 1. arrange private tours (and to whereand with whom) 2. take the ship tours 3. just hang around town 4. take public transportation to nearby sites (which ones). Any advice is welcomed. Thanks.
Rare Hlitner Posted January 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2014 If you are a wine lover, be sure to taste and buy some "Grk" when on Korcula. This is a dry white wine grape only grown on this island and it is almost impossible to find the wine anywhere else in the world (although some is exported to Greece). We have also had a lot of fun "stumping the sommelier" with the mention of this rare grape. The wine is relatively cheap (about 10 Euros) and drinkable. maryann ns Posted February 1, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2014 I answered on your other thread that Korcula is great to walk around yourself. We stayed there overnight. When we arrived in the afternoon there were three cruise ships and the town was busy. They left in the early evening and the town was magical without them. I hope there are not so many ships when you are there.
Rare Azulann Posted February 1, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Did a cruise with stops in Marmaris and Chania in November on Celebrity Constellation. Marmaris would be a good port to just relax and walk around town. Nice shops and great cafes overlookng the water.Or take a private tour, maybe one organized on your roll call for a day on a gulet boat exploring the area. it was too chilly to do that last Nov. Chania is a wonderful town, with lots of italian influence. The port is about 15 minutes away. There is a local bus from port to town when ship are in port. We took a ship tour. Went to a small town Vasmos and on to a monastary overlooking a valley full of olive trees, stop at a local history museum which included lunch, local wines, and tour of winery.then off to Chania for two hours on our own before boarding the bus back to ship. Our tour guide was great source for history of Crete and current affairs in Greece. Enjoy your cruise to these wonderful places.
