lucydney Posted February 1, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2014 On HAL Veendam the last 2 years happy hour was 4PM-5PM in the Oasis bar and in the Crow's nest. I believe it was buy 1, get same drink for $1.
billbunger Posted February 1, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2014 All the ships have the happy hour. Look in your daily program it tells you which bar has the happy hour and what time. They usually have three different bars doing it each day at different times. So you can do a happy hour crawl.
Rare Crazy For Cats Posted February 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Is this fleet wide? We are sailing on Noordam - do they also have a happy hour? Certain days, times? Info would be greatly appreciated. I haven't sailed on the Noordam but would expect to see happy hours most days of your cruise. It has been my experience to see a happy hour at 4 or 4:30, 6 or 6:30 regardless of the ship. On the larger ships there is a late happy hour starting sometime between 10 to 11, these times have changed from day to day on some cruises. You most likely will not tun into the afternoon happy hour on the first day of the cruise. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Info would be greatly appreciated. No happy hours on the first day, but there are usually several a day thereafter. Typically the Crow's Nest & Ocean Bars have Happy Hours. Often times there will be others. You can almost always count on finding one from 4 to 5. It's buy 1, get the 2nd for a dollar. It includes anything up to a certain value, usually $7. (As a general rule, the cut off is always just below Maker's Mark - my drink of choice - not that I'm bitter.) :(
bachcruise Posted February 1, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2014 We went to happy hour a couple times at the ocean bar on NA. We were required to purchase 2 drinks in order to get 2 more free.
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 1, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 1, 2014 On our Nieuw Amsterdam cruises, Happy Hour was from 4 - 5 in the Ocean Bar and Crow's Nest. Another Happy Hour was very late in the evening in the Casino Bar. You had to buy 1 drink and you got the second one for $1 -- delivered at the same time. No drinks over $7 and no premium alcohols. Only allowed house wines.

I think you misunderstood something. I sail solo and buy one drink and second one for $1. Perhaps the bartenders was saying you each had to buy a drink to get the second one for a $1. The $1 drink is not meant for a person who did not buy a drink in the first place.:)
Rare POA1 Posted February 1, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 1, 2014 No drinks over $7 and no premium alcohols. Only allowed house wines. As a point of clarification, this doesn't limit you to well brands. There are quite a few call brands that make the cut off. I saw a list from RetiredMustang's late 2013 voyage and unless you were a single malt or Cognac drinker, you could probably find a decent pour for your Happy Hour enjoyment. My preferred Bourbon is over the $7 limit, so I switch to Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, or an Irish whiskey for HH. Unless you are one of those people who will only drink one particular high end brand - Patron Tequila for instance - I think you'll make do. KK is absolutely correct that the wine selection is pretty limited during HH. Cheers!
