CRUISE BUG BIT HARD Posted February 9, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2014 Depends on where you are staying? Do you have a car available?

megr1125 Posted February 9, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) Timbuktu, Pappas and G&M... I have been to G & M (by the airport) recently and it was good, but not as good as in the past.... I haven't been to Timbuktu in a while, but many of my Baltimore area pals LOVE it there (and it may be/or was owned by the same people as G & M) (sort of by the airport, but closer to arundel mills, though that's only about 5 miles away from the airport anyhow) Haven't been to Pappas (there are 2, one sort of near white marsh, and one in glen burnie - sort of in the general vicinity of the airport area)...again, my go-to Baltimore peeps LOVE it there.. http://gandmcrabcakes.com/restaurant.html http://www.timbukturestaurant.com/ http://www.pappasparkville.com/ http://cmcasella5.wix.com/glenburniepappas Edited February 9, 2014 by megr1125
1PAcruiser Posted February 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2014 My first choice it's 25 min south of the port it's Anne Arundel Seafood...http://www.aaseafood.com or 230 Mountain Rd, Pasadena, MD 21122
rubytue Posted February 16, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2014 G&M for sure! The crab cakes are huge, buttery, and melt I'm your mouth. After dinner, pick up desert to take back with you from the take out part of the building. Pappas puts parsley on their crab cakes. I'm not a fan of green things in my crab cakes. ANne Arundel seafood has a bit too much filler, but you are more likely to get local crabs. Now, we go to AA seafood for hard crabs (when dh doesn't catch them), oysters, clams, etc, but not crab cakes. It's about 10 minutes from my house :) G&M, Pappas, Romanos (similar to other, but with some baking powder), and Timbuktu use Indonesian crab. It has bigger lumps than the blue crab, but it's not quite as rich. But the crab cakes are good enough to make up for it. You won't get local crab this time of year anyway. If you were coming from the north, I'd suggest Box Hill in Abington. No one has mentioned Phillips, but don't fall for that. It's a tourist crab cake. Don't bother. CRUISE BUG BIT HARD Posted March 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 8, 2014 My vote is for G & M or Olive Grove which is a block or so from G & M. They are owned by the same people. I think Pappas are good but not as big as G & M. 7West in Towson's are pretty good also.
gram2trips Posted March 9, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 9, 2014 We drive in from PA for cruise & always go to G & M after cruise when heading home for lunch...the best crab cakes we have ever eaten...their desserts are homemade & awesome as well. CruisingMoon Posted March 10, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) I live in Baltimore and I prefer the Olive Grove over G&Ms. It is the same recipe - the chef left one and went to the other. Staff is nicer at the Grove, you get all you can eat salad and breadsticks with crab cake (similar to Olive Garden). They are 9 ozs. and come with 2 sides. At G&M you get a salad which is basically some lettuce, slice of tomato and some onion. G&M's parking is terrible and there is always a line. Olive Grove - you can call ahead and there is parking on both sides of the restaurant. A nice hotel, is the Best Western on Dorsey Road. If you spend the night there, you can leave your car there for free and they will shuttle you to the Port for free. I have stayed at that hotel when I have gone to parties at The Stained Glass Pub (they share a parking lot) and no one wanted to be the DD. Very clean and friendly staff. Free Continental Breakfast isn't the greatest, but not the worst I've had either. Edited March 10, 2014 by CruisingMoon
buckirj1 Posted March 11, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Timbuktu might not have the very best crabcakes, but I think they're very close to Olive Garden and G&M in that order. All 3 places are pretty closely bunched in the top 3 of crabcake places near the airport. Timbuktu by far has the most parking, and is the easiest to get in and out of, if that matters to you. It matters to me, and I'm relatively local.
smalltimecruiser100 Posted March 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 13, 2014 My vote....Timbuktu is the best! G&M second(not the best parking there).
Eng23 Posted March 15, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 15, 2014 I was finally able to try G&M Restaurant tonight. I can see why parking is an issue, the lot fills up fast because everyone loves this place. I got there early enough and had no problem finding a parking spot, can't say I would have been as lucky getting there later. The crab cakes are fantastic! Big, lots of crab and just the perfect amount of filler all cooked perfectly. I had the single crab cake platter that comes with a house salad and two sides. I also sampled the cream of crab soup. The soup was very good with large chunks of crab in it. So, if you time it right G&M Restaurant is a great choice for great crab cakes!
Rare markeb Posted March 16, 2014 #14 Share Posted March 16, 2014 I guess I'm going to have to put G&M and Timbuktu on my list. We were long time Obrycki's fans, and really hated to see them go! (And, yes, I know there are plenty of folks from Baltimore who never cared for Obrycki's!)

Next time I'll have to try Timbuktu and compare them. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app Obrycki's closed in 2011. Kind of mixed stories. I know it was getting harder and harder to get good blue crabs, and apparently the family that bought out Obrycki in the 70's was just exhausted. They were supposed to be negotiating to have a location near Arundel Mills or even in the Maryland Live! casino, but that fell through. They have a small location in the Southwest terminal at BWI, and at the Cleveland airport, but the location in Fells Point is gone.

Eng23 Posted May 14, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 14, 2014 I can now add another place for a good crab cake. If you are in downtown Baltimore and can go by the Lexington Market, try Faidley's Seafood. I saw Faidley's on a Travel Channel show and was just in downtown last week for an Orioles game. I went to Faidley's for lunch and had their crab cakes. Very good crab cake, big lumps of crab, light filler, and a really good smooth flavor. The crab cake was just a tiny bit smaller than the one's at G&M Restaurant but rank right up there with G&M.
