Wine package questions

I'm heading onto my first cruise in April and was curious how the "wine packages" work. Say I pick a 5-bottle package, where/when is bottle dispensed - only at dinner? I was curious as to what happens if someone only drinks half, etc.

Getting a better understanding of that will help me in choosing a proper option. I plan on bringing 2 nice bottles onto the ship and may just get one of the drink packages depending on how the wine program works.

Thanks

The wine package is designed to be distributed at restaurant venues. Some have reported being able to get bottles at Windjammer and bars, but I would not depend on that.

You can ask the wait staff to save partially consumed bottles for another night, or you can take them with you. You can also take one or all of your full bottles with you.

Ah ok - I guess the only way they distinguish them from ones carried on is the brand?

As pointed out you can get a "wine package" wine at any restaurant. We also have gotten them at the WJ. But generally people order the wine in the MDR so there is no concern about "corkage fee." If you go to a restaurant for lunch (specialty or MDR) and order off your wine package, they will send what's left of the bottle to your MDR table for dinner if you like, so there really isn't a reason for you to have to carry it in.

We've also taken a bottle we brought aboard and there has been no corkage fee. But it depends on your waiter. We've only done it once or twice, and once was champagne for a celebration. However if you choose to try this, open it in your cabin and have small amount. Then it's unlikely they'll say anything as you may have got it at another venue.
