fergusonvt Posted February 19, 2014 #151 Share Posted February 19, 2014 Sorry you had such rough weather but one needs to think about the convience of the next cruise's passengers too - if the captain can't be sure that the weather would improve without any doubt, there is no point of delaying the next cruise too. Not to mention every other passengers flights also.

YankeeFan4Ever Posted February 19, 2014 #154 Share Posted February 19, 2014 (edited) Rough seas are bound to happen in the North Atlantic. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise but to assume that the captain intentionally put the passengers and crew in danger to make a morning flight is ridiculous. My wife and I sailed on the Gem during hurricane Sandy and faced 40-50 foot swells! Feel free to click the link in my signature for my hurricane Sandy Gem cruise review, which includes pics and videos. I just looked at your review of Hurricane Sandy onboard the NCL Gem. I remember reading it when you wrote it and loved the review, so much that I read it all again today. You two are so cute! I also loved your attitude, why not hang out in a bar to get you through the worst of it?? The highest seas I have ever been in were 40 foot with gale force winds so I can't imagine what it was like when they hit 50! We were here in NJ on land wondering how the passengers of the Gem were doing. I bet your still talking about it to this day!
socsthecat Posted February 19, 2014 #156 Share Posted February 19, 2014 We were on the same cruise. It was SO ROUGH that my can of shaving foam toppled over in the bathroom in our deck 11 cabin. It woke me up. Unbelievably rough  I have a low opinion of the cruise, but not because of the weather.

I hadn't read your review before - not sure how I missed it - but wanted to join the kudos for having the forethought to check your account and adjust the DSC to include the 4 unexpected days. I'm shamed to say it probably would never have occurred to me....until I read your review. Now it'll be something at the back of my mind if we're ever in a similar situation. Stephen P.S. Did you send a letter to Kevin Sheehan? Did you get a response? (I haven't actually finished the thread yet, maybe you mention it later) . hateswaterloves2cruise Posted February 20, 2014 #159 Share Posted February 20, 2014 We were on this sailing as well and from later Saturday afternoon til later Sunday night it was rough. Our closet door wouldn't stay shut, one drawer kept opening and stuff was flying off the shelves. We had an aft balcony room and it was worse than mid ship but I knew that before I booked the room. DH had a bit of a cold and took meds and slept thru the whole thing. I'm terrified of water BUT I told myself that many ships sail thru much worse and come out okay and so would we. We have sailed out of NYC quite a bit, especially for the past 4-5 February's and I agree that this particular night was probably the worst I have experienced. We have been lucky with our cruises. Highest seas have usually been 15'-20'. This time they did report 26'. I wore my Sea Bands and didn't feel ill at all. Looking forward to our next cruise. I know the captain was leaving the ship after this cruise but with his sense of humor I know he didn't have an 8 a.m. flight out on Monday.
