Plant Posted February 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) As of now, we're going to spend three or four days in Sydney, then three or four in Brisbane. We're very comfortable in the Hampton Inn in the U.S. The Hampton has free breakfast, free Internet, airport shuttles, and is very clean. The "per night" cost is usually about $125.00 USD. It's a Hilton brand in the U.S. Is there a comparable hotel in Sydney and Brisbane? Thanks so much, Edited February 23, 2014 by Plant
maryann ns Posted February 23, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2014 Certainly nothing for that price in central Sydney. We stayed at the YHA hostel on the Rocks (Sydney Harbour YHA) and it was something like $145 for a private room. Breakfast was available but not included (and there were communal kitchens). Wi-fi was included and very good. The location is fantastic. We could see part of the bridge and all of the Opera house from our window and there was a great rooftop deck. www.yha.com.au If you go to Trip Advisor and do a search you will find many threads for hotels. Thanks so much, Agree with maryann that it will very difficult to find anything in $125 USD price range in the Sydney Harbor area and also agree that TripAdvisor is a great resource. Others on CC may be able to provide you with a good match to the Hampton Inn brand in Sydney & Brisbane. We know the Hampton Inn brand in the USA and have also stayed at the YHA in the Rocks. The YHA has a great location with a great rooftop view and it's a good place to stay at as long as you keep in mind that you are staying at a YHA (HI) hostel. It is not like a Hampton Inn or most midrange motel chains in the USA. Sydney and the Sydney Harbor area are absolutely incredible ! ! ! :) Edited February 23, 2014 by suncityga
newbris Posted February 23, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) No affiliation but for Brisbane I would recommend a top rated Bed & Breakfast like this one (or similar): http://www.lucerne.net.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=6 (Their website says from roughly $US135 per night and discounts for 3 or more nights) In excellent more interesting inner city location rather than CBD and gets great reviews on tripadvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Hotel_Review-g255068-d642564-Reviews-Lucerne_on_Fernberg-Brisbane_Queensland.html My parents stayed there and really liked it. The rooms are in buildings separated from the main house so more private than a normal B&B. Another I like the look of which is in an even better location is The Collingwood but it looks like it may be more expensive: http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Hotel_Review-g255068-d1772269-Reviews-The_Collingwood-Brisbane_Queensland.html Edited February 23, 2014 by newbris
CoopColbie Posted February 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2014 If you want to stay at a basic hotel in Brisbane, I'd suggest the Ibis. It is part of the Sofitel/Novotel group of hotels and it is almost at the bottom end of their range. The Ibis in Brisbane is nice - basic but nice - and I think it even includes breakfast. The next 'brand' up in this group of hotel if the Mecure, while the brand below the Ibis is the Ibis Styles. Check around for deals - often these places do some very good rates for city-stay hotels. cassamanda Posted February 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2014 There is a Hilton Hotel in central Sydney. basic rooms are around $200. You dont say when you will be visiting which can make a huge difference in price. Try also serviced apartments such as The Meriton group if staying more than a few days.
