buzz2400 Posted February 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2014 can you get bottled beer with the cheers program. My son wants to do this and he likes bottled beer only.

n6uqqq Posted February 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Most definitely. You can request to leave them unopened too if you want. You can make your own bucket by getting a beer every 5 minutes and stocking up. He will need to average 10 beers a day to break even with cheers. Laurie S. Posted February 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2014 They wouldn't give us the bottles of Corona to take from the atrium bar, only the beer in a glass.
JAGR Posted February 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Any bar on Lido would be fine for bottled beer. Atrium and the other "Indoor" bars are bit more stiff and formal.
KYWEST1 Posted February 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2014 He will need to average 10 beers a day to break even with cheers. I read somewhere that after the 7th beer, you're in the "bonus" ?
Rod in Az Posted February 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 25, 2014 I read somewhere that after the 7th beer, you're in the "bonus" ? Depends on what type of beer you are drinking. The least expensive beers are $4.95, with 15% tip added that is $5.70 each. The most expensive beer is $7.75, with 15% tip added that is $8.92 each. Cheer's is $49.95 per day, with 15% tip added that is $57.45. If you are drinking the cheapest beers, you "break even" at 10. If you are drinking the most expensive beer you "break even" at 7 (6 1/2 really, but you can't buy half a beer).
R3DP0 Posted February 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Any bar on Lido would be fine for bottled beer. Atrium and the other "Indoor" bars are bit more stiff and formal. The Lido deck bars will not serve glass bottles. They will open and pour the beer into those funky plastic glasses. I never had a problem getting a bucket of glass bottled beers from the atrium bar or casino bar.

n6uqqq Posted February 26, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 26, 2014 The Cheers program doesn't include buckets of beer. No it doesn't but you can effectively " build " bucket of beer by getting one every 5 minutes as allowed under the cheers program. Takes 15 minutes time to get 4 beers which equals the bucket. I am sure they would even give you a bucket to store them in ;).
n6uqqq Posted February 26, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) To the OP if your son drinks the more expensive beer the break even will be around 7 like a previous poster above stated. If he drinks garden variety coors light or Budweiser it will take 10 to get even. The beer that you can break even at 7 with is the Foster's oil can which is 7.75. That however, is the same as 14 twelve ounce beers as each can is 25 ounces. If you were to manage to drink 15 Foster's in a day you would get the same as 30 twelve ounce beers. That is a lot of beer! Edited February 26, 2014 by n6uqqq

n6uqqq Posted February 26, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 26, 2014 I have never bought a bucket of Coronas but it is probably the glass issue. I personally just get a bucket of Foster's as that is 8 beers worth for about 33 dollars.Four Foster's cans actually takes two buckets space. I don't drink enough to break even on Cheers. I will also be on the Miracle next month so I will inquire about Corona buckets out of curiosity.

It's cheaper by about $2 to buy the bucket of 4 rather than buying 4 single ones. With the Cheers program, it doesn't matter because you can't buy them by the bucket. With the Cheers program, it doesn't matter because you can't buy them by the bucket. Object is not always to save money. I often get a bucket of beer to take to the balcony where i can enjoy it with a cigar. If i had the Cheers program, I would wait for 4-5 beers so I would not have to keep going to the bar. On the Lido deck, there is always servers walking around taking orders yet people still buy the bucket to save a couple of bucks.

n6uqqq Posted February 27, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 27, 2014 How many in the bucket? Four beers in a bucket. When you buy a bucket you save 2 dollars. That is how I do it. I won't drink enough to make cheers worthwhile. In the above post when I mentioned building a bucket under cheers it was for convenience only, not a money saver. The other good part about buying a bucket is then the drink jockeys will see it and not bug you every two minutes :D. Sometimes they are as pervasive as the peddlers on the beaches of Mexico! The only place it seems tough to get a drink is the MDR. Edited February 27, 2014 by n6uqqq
woneill63 Posted February 28, 2014 #20 Share Posted February 28, 2014 Fosters is the best way to go. On the Cheers program you are only allowed fifteen drinks max so you have to use it wisely. On RCI they expect you to act like an adult and the same drink package allows you unlimited drinks, shots, whatever. What really pissed me off is that prior to my first Carnival cruise last October, Carnival's customer service told me that I could buy drinks after I hit my fifteen limit, two different reps told me this. Then the first night I get cut off at 10:30 pm like a high school kid, of course there are ways around this. I opted out after the second day and they pro-rated the two days I was on the cheers program. My second Carnival cruise I knew what to expect and was ready to deal with it. My brother always buys his by the bucket and there is always one of the drink jockeys trying to get him to buy another one. He just points to the bucket and they leave. Then when he wants another bucket, they never show up. I agree 100% with your comment about the MDR. Especially if you don't buy one on the first night. Seems like they never show up again unless you buy one right from the start.
Colonel Angus Posted February 28, 2014 #22 Share Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) The only place it seems tough to get a drink is the MDR. Colonel Angus has found that with a cash tip on the first evening, on the following evenings the MDR beverage server is at his table before he can even sit down and comes by multiple times during the service for additional orders.
