Leaving NYC on March 9. What is traffic like near the port on a Sunday morning? Is it possible to drop off family and luggage without too much traffic hassle, and then go park the car, or is it just easier to park the car and have everyone walk or take a taxi to the port from the parking garage (planning to park about a mile away where it is cheaper).

 

Also, what is the security process like? Do they have body scanners?

Assuming there's no major event in Manhattan the day of your cruise, it's an easy experience.

It's probably easier to park at garage then taxi to pier. If the driver gets out to help unload the car, it will cause some tie up, plus the people who get let off will have to hang out until driver gets back from parking the car. Sunday AM traffic is only likely to be heavy near the pier - why go throughout it twice?

actually I always unload first and then park(or have someone take the car home)...Its really not that bad. You unload all the stuff to the curb. have who is staying at the pier deal with the porters and wait for the driver to return. When returning either walk of have the cab let you off across the street on the uptown side and then cross the street and take the elevator up to the first level and find your party...

It's fine to unload your stuff and everyone but the driver first, then park the car. Traffic to the port on a Sunday morning won't be bad.
