ssolen Posted March 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2014 The pre and post cruise option is the Intercontinental Westminster in London. It is pretty pricey, so I'm wondering if someone out there thinks it is worth spending that one night there, or is there another option close by. Rare LHT28 Posted March 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2014 Pricey is all relative What is your budget? Do you need/want 5* or will a 3* do ?
Bruin Steve Posted March 1, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) The Oceania options are always VERY pricey... We've always had very good luck booking 4 and 5 star hotels in London on our own... Last visit, we found a hotel we really liked--location, luxury, etc. Had a very nice suite--living room, bedroom, bath...two flat screen TVs and nice views of London...in a brand new, then, pretty much new now 4-star...located right near the London Eye, directly across the bridge from Big Ben/Parliament...We walked to everywhere... ...and the pricing was incredibly reasonable... http://www.parkplaza.com/london-hotel-gb-se1-7ut/gbwestmi The visit before, we got a very good deal on the 5-star Mayfair... Lots of deals much better than Oceania's pricing to be found... Add: We've also stayed a couple of times at the Rubens--very nice, very traditional, right across from Buckingham Palace...and we've stayed in some other places we're NOT returning to...But, when staying at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, my wife remarked "Let's stay here EVERY time we visit London from now on!"... ssolen Posted March 1, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 1, 2014 Thank you. Have you heard of The Sanctuary? It's close to the Intercontinental.
orchestrapal Posted March 2, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2014 Thank you. Have you heard of The Sanctuary? It's close to the Intercontinental. The Sanctuary House is between St. James and Victoria and is a three star while the Intercontinental is a five star on Park lane near Hyde Park Corner. Not equals at all. JPR Posted March 2, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 2, 2014 Go on TripAdvisor and check for best prices in London on that date. We like the One Aldwych, which has a subterranean swimming pool, restaurants, and a hip modern bar, and is close to Covent Garden/theatre district. Bruin Steve Posted March 2, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) Thank you. Have you heard of The Sanctuary? It's close to the Intercontinental. Is it important to you to be close to the Intercontinental? The area is close to a lot of tourist sites, but all of London is easy to get around...on foot, by cab, by underground... The Mayfair, where we stayed a couple of visits ago, is near Picadilly Circus and Covent Garden and a very nice area... The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, the one I highly recommend, is only a few blocks from the Intercontinental, but across the Thames...it's a great walk between the two--lots of folks walking across Westminster Bridge and right by Big Ben... Check out the reviews on Trip Advisor...it's rated 4 stars, but most of us who have stayed there can't believe it's not 5...we thought it nicer than the 5-star Mayfair we stayed at the year before... Again, across the river from the Intercontinental, but really not very far away at all... Edited March 2, 2014 by Bruin Steve
