californiacruiser Posted March 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2014 We are booked on a 4 day March 23. We have been on the Sapphire before and love it. I keep reading about what they are doing. Is all of these changes going to be disturbing for our cruise? I am getting disillusioned. I really don't want them installing things in our room. Why aren't they doing this in dry dock? Is this normal?

Is all of these changes going to be disturbing for our cruise? I am getting disillusioned. I really don't want them installing things in our room. Why aren't they doing this in dry dock? Is this normal? They were doing work on our cruise in late January. There some TV cartons in the hallways and also some workers, but no big deal and it didn't effect our cruise in the slightest. Drydocks are reserved for work that can't be done while ships are underway such as cleaning the hulls and servicing the engines. Also major revisions to the ships interior such as adding an International Cafe or revising the Horizon Court layout. When we were on the Sapphire in 2011 before her last drydock, they installed a Sports Court above Skywalkers. It was the last of 6 ships to have that area added and all were at sea. They are always working on a ship on every cruise, painting and varnishing, replacing carpet, working on individual rooms, etc. Relax and enjoy your cruise :) Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted March 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2014 I was on the Sapphire in January. They were installing new televisions. The only other changes I noticed were slot machines that "seemed" to be more Oriental in nature (dragons, Asian characters, etc). The staff is being replaced with people that are able to speak Chinese (or maybe Japanese). I don't imagine they will be doing major work on your cruise. Enjoy Sapphires few remaining voyages on this side of the world.
DrivesLikeMario Posted March 3, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2014 We noticed a few changes in late December but it was nothing that impaired our trip, in fact, it saved me a few bucks. Quite a few of the casino's slot machines had been changed over to the Asian market and they were too costly and confusing for me to figure out. Only other things we noticed were some of the the crew who were excited to be going closer to their home countries and a few signs. I'm on the last short cruise and I wouldn't have booked it if I felt it would not be a good one or I would feel uncomfortable in any way.
24639 Posted March 3, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2014 We were in our room when they needed to come in and change out our two televisions. It was really quick and no big deal. It will impact your cruise as much as you allow. The old TV's are being cycled in to the crews quarters and their TV's are being donated. So, there will be work going on behind the scenes in the non public areas for longer than anyone will really see.
Holomoku Posted March 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Sapphire is down for the month of May to change over the decor, etc. We are on her for the T/P in April and are looking forward to a normal Princess cruise. Even with the changes I have seen several threads for cruises for next winter being booked by Aussies, so they are glad to have a larger ship for them to use. Most of the changes will be in May. All will be good.

Is this normal? We disembarked yesterday........ They entered our cabin to install the modem. No big deal, they were in and out in about 10 minutes. Its not normal but they get done what they can while the ship is underway. There has been work going on for a few months now. I would not worry about it, just enjoy your cruise. We had a fantastic time.
casavaha Posted March 3, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 3, 2014 They installed 40" tvs in most of the cabins. Some of the stores are being changed for the Asian market. They are upgrading the Wi-fi system. There is very little interuption to your daily activities. We just got off but are going again March 11 and 15. Greg Hi Greg, I forgot about the Boutique space being renovated on deck 7. They are using the Hearts & Minds chapel (across from the Wheelhouse) for the temp boutique space. brentlym Posted March 3, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Colo_Cruiser… Did they offer the drink package on the 4/5 day cruises on Sapphire? I haven't heard if it's just 7 days or if they were offering it on the shorter ones as well.
