GeorgiaPeach Posted March 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2014 We went with this company: http://www.hoonahwhalewatching.com/index.html I thought they were excellent. This is probably your best bet. While researching my upcoming Radiance cruise, this was the only independent company out of Icy Straight I found that would take more than 6 per tour. Vacationlover2 Posted March 4, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 4, 2014 We don't mind splitting up into two boats. We just want the best experience.
SilkySal Posted March 4, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 4, 2014 We don't mind splitting up into two boats. We just want the best experience. This July, we will be using Glacier Wind Charters and sailing with Teresa and Capt Shawn!! Six guests max but will split our group of 8 into 2 trips! Can't wait!! Very good reviews from CC folks!;)
Busman723 Posted March 4, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 4, 2014 We have used Capt. Floyd and we are using again this August. The name is F.I.S.H.E.S. The owner is Marjorie & Floyd Peterson. Their phone # is 907-945-3327. He will get you the the whales fast and will place his boat where you can get outstanding pictures. You can look up comments about his service either here on Cruise Critic or on trip adviser(that where I found them). Also there is a good article on their web site, done a writer. Also another good one is Misty Bay( their tours fill up fast, so they may not be available, ( I have not been able to use them because of that) Good luck and happy sailing. Italy52 Posted March 4, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 4, 2014 Have gone with F.IS.H.E.S. 3 times and Glacier Wind 2 times; both have provided an excellent excursion. We will also be going with both vendors again in June of this year. The small boat whale watching experience is preferred to a larger, more crowded boat --- no one wants to jockey for a chance to see the whales. Just remember, you will probably see whales riding on the surface, blows and tails --- anything more than that consider yourself lucky. We have seen whales breaching 4 out of 5 times --- we go with no expectations and consider ourselves blessed when we see breaching.
