Ithaca Posted March 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2014 The Odissey will visit Catania/Girdini Naxos (not sure which) next May and we would like to go to Taormina. Those that have done this stop could probably let us know if there is a port shuttle to Taormina, or we should consider the ship's tour. We are active walkers and understand Taormina is very walkable; however, we would need to get from the port to the town. Comments and suggestions appreciated! lincslady Posted March 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2014 If you are lucky enough to be anchored off Giardini Naxos there will be a tender into the dock, and a shuttle bus up to Taormina ( a 20 minute ride and a bit hairy!) which used to be free, probably still is. You are taken to the bus station, with a lift up to the edge of the town, all very walkable.
wripro Posted March 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2014 Taormina is totally doable on your own. As the previous poster said the shuttle will take you to a parking structure where there is an elevator to the town. Be sure and go to the amphitheater at the other end of town and walk through. secoma4 Posted March 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2014 We did the excursion to Mt Etna. Well worth it. Wear warm clothes. You can probably then do Taormina on your own, depending how long the ship is there.
