Disney Fantasy with a 1.5 year old...what should we know?

Hi all -

We just booked an October cruise on Fantasy with our three kids ages 8, 6 and 1.5 years old (at time of cruise). We were on Fantasy two years ago when I was pregnant with our youngest, but now that we have a little one in tow, can I get any helpful tips on what to pack or things to arrange ahead of time?

 

We are bringing grandma along to help and have two connecting rooms booked to give us more space and have arranged for a crib/high chair in our reservation.

 

I'm thinking of ordering diapers and a few supplies from Babies Travel Lite to have delivered to our room. Any other tips?

Babies Travel Lite is expensive...but less so if you order directly thry them rather than using the DCL link. Of course that means you'd have to type in the name of the ship.

 

If you use either a car rental or a towncar/limo service to get to the terminal, you can make a stop at a Wal-mart to buy diapers. Slap on a luggage tag and they'll be delivered directly to your stateroom. Unless you need a lot of other supplies, you can save the Babies Travel Lite deal. At 1 1/2, the child will be eating food, so all you are really getting is diapers and wipes.

 

They will put a diaper genie in your room and empty it twice daily. Think about whether you want the Pack and Play left up or taken down each morning (leaving it up means you'll have it for naps). If you wish, they will move the coffee table out of the room to give you more space.

 

If you know when you want it, you can schedule nursery in advance...but with a grandma, you might not want it at all. They are really good about booking it on board and/or changing times. Cost is currently $8 per hour. Booking in advance is up to 18 hours on a 7 night cruise.

 

Remember that you can take the baby to the Oceaneer's Club during open house hours. And check out "toddler time" in the mornings.

If your 1.5 year old like to get wet be sure and bring plenty of swim diapers. They are required in the kids water areas and the Fantasy has a great water area for toddlers. Its safe and very cute and colorful. Easy to watch them or to be in there with them too.

 

We thought we had plenty of swim diaper for our grand child but ran out about day 3. OOPS!! So had to buy more on board which is VERY EXPENSIVE!!!

 

Plus they ran out part way through the cruise. Guess we weren't the only ones to not take enough!!

Go to honest.com and buy a re-usable swim diaper! They are so cute and easy to wash by hand and use every day. Much cheaper and easier to pack than swim diapers!!!

A compact umbrella stroller. Our son wanted to walk most of the time, but when we were going certain places or needed to get somewhere fast, we used the stroller. It was easy to fold up, weighed nothing and hardly took up any room. Also, maybe a snack cup and snacks for the room, and a portable cup.

If you want a big stroller for an excursion or whatever, you can borrow one at GS. You can get one at the beginning of the cruise and keep ti till the end OR just get it for a few hours when you need it. Just remember that you have booked a cabin, not a piece of hallway. Leaving a stroller in the hall risks that it will disappear or be abused as well as making life difficult for the room stewards and those with mobility assist devices. The HA cabins are at the far ends of the hall, meaning that those guests must get past many regular cabins. Even a manual wheelchair has difficulty getting past some of the stuff that people leave in the halls!

 

Most people find that the umbrella stroller works best and fits well in the cabin.
