Ultimate Dining Package

I recently booked Norwegian Getaway to Bermuda in September. I will be travelling with my husband and 10 year old sold. Very excited! First time on Norwegian and first time to Bermuda.

I checked my reservation online the NCL website and I saw an offer for ultimate dining package, limited time offer of $119 each. I am guessing this will allow me to eat in all the specialty restaurants. Does this seam like a good price? Is it worth it? Would my son pay $119 or is there a child price for him?

it all depends on how much you play to eat at these places. do a quick run through the math on what it would cost to eat at every place you want to try and see if it comes to less that 119. we may or may not go over 199 but since the first two in our group got the package for free and we did not want to have to worry about paying for any specialty places, we got it for everyone else.

Some think it is a good deal.

Some love it.

Some see little reason for it.

It all depends. If you scroll down through postings from the past few days, you will see multiple discussions. In the end, it still comes down to the individuals.

mnjcruiser, just to give you an idea of how some might do it, we sailed on the Pearl in December and so didn't have the UDP but... we ate at some specialty restaurants: Cagney's twice 30 pp x 2 = $60

Moderno once 20 pp x 1 = $20

Le Bistro once 20 pp x 1 = $20

Total x 1 = $100

These are just the venues we like but any are included (not entertainment venues though) so it might be worth it to you and your family.

We love eating in the specialty restaurants and will likely get the special, but not sure since we don't have a problem with the food in the MDR or buffet.

As far as your son goes, he's under 12, so I believe he'd be half price.

You sure you're booked on the Getaway?

I regards to your son,it doesn't state an age but people have stated 12 is the cut off age~

Children may order off of our complimentary children’s menu in any of our specialty restaurants at no charge, or they may dine for 50% off the cover charge by selecting from the ½ price children’s specialty restaurant menu.

regular charges would apply if he ate off the adult menu~

Per NCL's page re: children using UDP

Children

Children may order off of our complimentary children’s menu in any of our specialty restaurants at no charge, or they may dine for 50% off the cover charge by selecting from the ½ price children’s specialty restaurant menu.

All adjustments for non-package pre-paid reservations for children will be completed onboard through the posting of a credit to your stateroom folio. If the child ordered from the complimentary children’s menu, then a credit equal to the amount of the cover charge for the restaurant will be posted to your folio. If the child ordered from the ½ price children’s specialty menu, then a credit equal to 50% of the amount of the cover charge for the restaurant will be posted to your folio.

Just got off the getaway and we had the dining package. In our opinion it's was worth every penny. The food and service was excellent. I've been on 20 cruises and this a beautiful ship. Wait till you see the waterfront restaurents. We ate outside most nights. If you get a chance go to the magic show it was also worth the 39 dollars extra. The burn the floor show is the best show I have ever seen on a cruise ship and it's free. The casino is huge and the comedy club headliners was also very good. Try to book as much in advance as you can.

We just got off the Breakaway and had the UDP and it was great. We ate at Cagney's 3X, Teppanyaki 2X, La Cucina 1X and Moderno 1X. In addition to saving $61.00 each, we never waited to be seated, had great service and fantastic food. I would do it again in a heart beat. I hope you enjoy your cruise as much as we did.

As it's your first time on NCL I would very strongly recommend that you don't take the package out unless you had already made the decision to eat at the speciality restaurants almost every night anyway.

Whilst some complain about the quality of the free dining, many others think it is absolutely fine. I think it would be a mistake to not at least try the MDR's one night.

Were you planning on going to the Illusionarium? If so then that's another night when you won't use the specialities.

How about the buffet, or o'Sheehans, or the Grill on the pool deck? We always have at least one night a cruise when we just fancy grabbing something easy. I'd say this is even more likely with a 10 year old.

We love the speciality restaurants, but going there every other night is perfectly adequate.

Lets say that you try the MDR once, and decide that you don't like it, so eat at Speciality restaurants every other night (and don't go to the Illusionarium). The cost to go to Cagneys twice, Teppenyaki, Le Bistro, Moderno, La Cucina would be $140 so you will have saved $21. That includes the most expensive restaurant twice. If you did go to the Illusionarium or the Buffet/pub one night then you will be down on the deal. Also, if you fancy the Sushi or Noodle Bar for an evening then you are also likely to be down.

I say try the free options, and plan on going to two or three specialities. If you hate the MDR then it may end up costing you a small amount more to pay each time, but it's much more likely that you will spend less than $119.

The Breakaway goes to Bermuda in September. I was not aware of the Getaway doing that route.

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Well spotted. I assume that it is actually the Breakaway.

If the cruise is actually to Bermuda then that is another reason not to take the UDP. As the ship overnights there then there is the option to eat onshore, which would mean more meals missed on the ship.
