njs Posted March 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Just got a call from a Carnival Lost and Found Representative. DH 'lost' his camera on board the Victory Feb 17 cruise. They found it and called to verify cc and addy info.:) He said his job was helped by the fact that DH gave him the serial number on the camera. He suggested that the most helpful thing that cruisers can do is to take a pic of your sail and sign card that shows name and sailing-much easier to discover who owns the item
WindsorFred Posted March 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Also a good idea to take a picture with your name address and cell # in case you misplace it off the ship and an honest person finds it.
Fitzget Posted March 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Awesome that it got returned. I "lost" (read, left in a bathroom) my camera on a Pride sailing once, and it was never returned. I went back to the bathroom less than 5 minutes later, and it was gone. Good ideas mentioned above to take a picture of your sign and sail card as well as name and phone number. I've never thought to take a photo of my sign & sail card. However, my first picture if my name, Carnival ship, date of sailing. This gets changed for every trip I make - appropriate phone #'s on it. njs Posted March 12, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Yeah, it's not until you lose something, that you think about HOW you could have helped the cruiseline match you with the lost item LOL. Always happy when we discover there are honest people around
grumpyjr88 Posted March 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Those are great ideas, not just for when you cruise but for anytime you take your camera out. I once left my camera at Magic Kingdom and two weeks later, a camera matching my exact description was mailed to me. Unfortunately, it wasn't my camera so I'm assuming whomever lost it got mine. At least they tried. :)
gtouch Posted March 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2014 WOW.....you were lucky. With the pics on mine I wouldn't want them to know who I was.....just kidding all G rated.
cruiselover** Posted March 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2014 What a great idea about taking a photo of your Sail and Sign card for the first picture! I put a small name and address sticker on the outside of my camera when I bought it to help with identification. I covered the sticker with Scotch tape to keep it in place and keep the lettering from fading. I always thought an honest person might return it to me if it is lost. I wish the manufacturer had a little more space where the battery fits in the camera so I could have ID inside too. Anyway, your idea is a good one - I will use it on my next cruise. SkyMaster Posted March 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2014 I too, had a GREAT experience with Carnival Lost & Found. I left my U.S.M.C. cap, with lots and lots of Carnival ship pins, and other pins on it, aboard the "Dream". Figured I'd never see it again, but just a few weeks later I got a call from Carnival, and they'd found my cap, with all the pins, and they were verifying the address so they could ship it to me. THANKS CARNIVAL! So I told hubby I had to go back to those ports....... guess where i am going with a girlfriend this summer :D but I will still have to go back with him, he needs to be in the pictures lol
Grannycb Posted March 12, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2014 I lost my camera on the Pride a few years ago. The first picture, one that stayed in the camera memory, was of our luggage tag. The second picture was of us sitting at our table in the MDR with the number showing. We were flagged down when walking past passenger services desk. They recognized us and returned the camera. DH lost his camera when he put it down at checkin. The person who found it brought it directly to our cabin. Having the luggage tag with the ship, sailing date, and cabin number gave enough information for him locate us.
seashinesunshine Posted March 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2014 I'm so glad they found it and returned it to you. Lots of great suggestions here, but I would caution against putting your address on a photo. It would make it easy for someone to return it to you, however, you are also telling anyone who finds it that you are on vacation and are not at home. For sure a photo on the card with your name and phone number is an excellent idea. We have a name and phone number on our cards too.
Boozebabe Posted March 13, 2014 #14 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Last summer I drove off with my camera on my car roof. Long story made short, someone found it and went thru my pictures. Finally they saw a food porn picture with hubbys S&S card next to the plate. They looked up our name in the phone book and reunited me with my camera. Since that happened I now take a picture of a paper with name, and phone number on it. But I've never lost anything on the ship.
njs Posted March 13, 2014 Author #15 Share Posted March 13, 2014 The carnival representative said that they do extensive relocation for lost items. He said that items left in cabs or ports even from other cruiseships are turned over to Carnival's lost and found since they seem to have the extra staff and go out of their way to try to return lost items. So I would have to say to those who never got their things returned...they were found by someone who was dishonest and kept it for themself. It is refreshing to realize there are honest people out there who 'do to/for others what they would like others to do to/for them"
momof2cruzingurlz Posted March 13, 2014 #16 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Wow! Thank you for the great tidbit of info! I have a setting that will make a set picture show upon powering on. My info will be saved right on that spot so it will be seen right upon turning it on. Might be helpful to myself after a few Fun Ship Specials! Thank You!!! BenjiRodney Posted March 13, 2014 #18 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Left my iPhone in the taxi at port of Miami and was luck and got it malice back to me as an honest passenger who just got off the ship found it.
