Glory Vs. Splendor

I've sailed on both and if everything is the same I'd go with Glory because I believe it got some 2.0 upgrades. I sailed Glory before that so I'm not positive about what extras it has, but I thought I read on here that it has Guy's burgers. I like both ships, but would choose the one with more options. Enjoy!

Does the Splendor have a kids pool separate from the main pool?

Is the Glory laid out the same as the Conquest with the only kids pool area on the lido deck with the main pool?

This is a 4 port 7 night cruise so it might be worth it to have the Guy's Burgers over layout....they are so GOOD!

Go on the splendor, granted I've been on the glory a few times and she's beautiful, I never had a bad time never any issues or not even the slightest complaints, but the splendor is 5 years newer. She'll be in better shape.

I've only been on 2 cruises... Glory last August and Splendor this past January! Obviously we had a great time on the Glory - we got off and booked another cruise. You can't go wrong with either! They were terrific. Maybe because it was our first cruise experience, but we really enjoyed the staff on the Glory. They were great on the Splendor too, but just a little bit less formal and more friendly on the Glory. Guys was great - but we only ate there a couple of times because otherwise I'd be afraid I wouldn't fit through the door anymore! We didn't have any kids with us (except my 22 y/o son) - so I don't know about kids pools, etc... but they did have a waterslide that my husband liked!

But the Splendor ins not 2.0 upgrade? Is it worth?

The only thing the splendor doesn't have are the bars, but you can still get the same drinks anywhere on the ship, and guy fierys. The have a burrito bar at the back of the ship which is identical to blue iguana. It's where the idea for blue iguana came from.

They are really more similar than different but I prefer Splendor. I like the open area outside at the stern and that the mid-ship pool can be covered and that the movie screen can also be covered (same area as pool). On Glory there were some nights we did the outdoor movies that it was cold and all you could do was wrap yourself up.

And while Splendor doesn't have Guy's, it still has Mongolian Wok which I prefer over Guy's.

Have fun on whichever you choose!

Hi, I sailed the Glory in '12 and '13 and the Splendor in '14 with a now 14 yr old boy. I think for adults, the 2.0 upgrade on the Glory are nice if you enjoy the updated bars and food offerings of the Guys Burger Joint and Blue Iguana. The Splendor has a burrito bar but it doesn't offer the yummy salsa and toppings bar that BI offers.

For a 10 yr old, they probably don't care too much about the differences in the food, but they might enjoy the Hasbro game show on the Glory more than the Dr Suess offerings on the Splendor. Otherwise the two ships offer the same fun things like kids club, slide, mini golf, basketball and arcade. For a warm Caribbean sailing, I think I'd prefer the main pool deck lay out of the Glory...more open to the sun and breezes instead of the Splendor main pool that has the retractable roof and sits down a few decks.

Both ships suffer from the god-awful smoke-filled casino and adjacent Promenade deck areas. I'm so glad that Carnival is restricting balcony smoking, but they won't get any gambling $$ out of me until they figure out how to make the casinos bearable for non-smokers.

Other factors to consider:

- we found the food and service (other than the Guys and BI) to be the same. Though we liked the vibe and service a bit better in the Steakhouse on the Glory.

- I thought the entertainment was better on the Splendor. Maybe because we were doing an 8 night out of NYC vs. 4 or 5 night to Canada??? But there were more dancers in the main shows and it seemed that the vocalists were a bit more talented.

- Serenity area on the Splendor is not nearly as lovely as the Glory, but with a 10 yr old you probably are not hanging out there anyway???

- Spa and gym on the Splendor is bigger and nicer with the thermal areas that we loved and used almost everyday (we were staying in a Spa Cabin) but again with a 10 yr old, you may not be planning on spending alot of time there.

So, don't know if this helps at all!!! They are both great ships with wonderful crew and entertainment offerings! I'd sail either one again in a heartbeat! You may simply want to choose the ship with the best pricing for your preferred cabin?

Happy sailing!

Lynne

I have not been on either, but I think both have things that I would like. I would like to sail on Glory, because it has the new/American Table menu, which I would like to try. Many dont like it, and I think many do like it, but I would like to try it as I see lots of new things on that menu that sound good and are different.

But I also am partial to Splendor because it does not have the 2.0 "upgrades". I am not a fan of burgers in general, but I did not see anything wrong with the old burgers and grill hot dogs. Guys Burgers are raved about by many, but they do not appeal to me, but in fairness I have not tried one. Anyway, 2.0 holds no appeal to me. Splendor also has a tandoor grill which I like very much, and a rotisserie chicken place which I have never tried. Food aside, Splendor also has the old production style shows, not the newer playlist shows that so many seem to dislike.

I could be happy with either ship, but I would probably lean toward Splendor.

A burger is a burger. If I placed three different ship's burgers and one was a "Guys" and you didn't know what it was "supposed" to taste/look like, you would have no idea trying to figure out which one was the "famous/premium" one and which was the run-of-the-mill burger.

  • 2 weeks later...

Appreciate all of the input! We ended up sailing the Sunshine over the summer, so didn't pick either of the original choices LOL

We do, however, have the Splendor on a group cruise out of Norfolk next fall, really looking forward to it!
