GrammyKati Posted March 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Hello all you knowledgeable people, I an now using a heating pad daily. It has an auto shut off. Will I be able to bring it on my April cruise? Thanks for your help.
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted March 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2014 We brought one on Coral Princess in January. Just had it in the luggage, nobody said anything. We didn't need it, so I don't know what would happen if the cabin attendant saw it lying around. One wrinkle to plan for: there isn't anywhere close to the bed to plug it in, so you need to pack a long extension cord.
Colo Cruiser Posted March 17, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) I don't think its a matter of anyone saying anything. I don't think Stewart is going to rifle through drawers and belongings to find possibly banned items. As teapots/coffee makers and such that do not have an auto shut off of some type it would not be allowed. I am not to sure about electric blankets, its actually a good question. Probably something that needs to be asked onboard. They can get pretty hot and if it were to short out could cause big issues. Also using those with a longer extension cord could cause the cord to heat up too, thats why they make the cords shorter. southpawsdakota Posted March 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 17, 2014 I have brought a heating pad on my cruises with no problems and on one of my recent cruises I needed an additional extension cord and the room steward was happy to find one for me. Pam in CA Posted March 17, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Heating pads are OK. Just bring a long extension cord unless you're on the Royal.

EatPrayCruise Posted March 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 17, 2014 I knew I could count on all of you, I will bring an extension cord. I have taken a heating pad and extension cord on four Princess cruises now. On one trip in 2011, I actually left it in bed one day rather than tucking it into a drawer. We always make our bed right away and I simply forgot to remove it. It just happened to be the day the steward changed the sheets. He changed them out and put the heating pad back in between the sheets where he found it. :o

Steviewonder1 Posted March 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2014 If you have a PH Suite there is an outlet on one side of the headboard to plug it into and on some ships there is an European outlet next to the US outlet. The European outlet is 240VAC though and you do not want to use that for a heating pad.
shastatroy Posted March 18, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Heating pad caused a house fire in my home city today.
EatPrayCruise Posted March 18, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Hope it wasn't still turned on. Nope, of course not. It has an auto shut off and I make sure it's off when I get out of bed. I use one nightly at home as well. Sent from my iPad using Cruise Critic Forums mobile app
