Hello All -

We may book Breakaway very last minute over the next few days/weeks. This is not the way I do things. When we did Allure I studied these boards obsessively for months and made an embarrassingly detailed "guide book" which I insisted my family read so they wouldn't ask me questions. I stopped short at the quiz part tho. :D

With this short notice, I would REALLY appreciate some pointers - either share here or direct me because I am FREAKING OUT that I don't have my usual planning time but thrilled at this opportunity. I appreciate your time. Here are our likes/preferences:

1. Be away from the crowd. On Allure we lived in the Solarium w our grown kids. They're not joining us.

2. Be away from smoke.

3. Late seating. Healthy eating.

4. Keep expenses down. We're not big drinkers or gamblers.

5. Working out.

6. Deck chairs with view of ocean and not a million kids around us. We are getting old and cranky.

7. Beach options at Port C & Nassau.

8. I'm seasickness prone but was fine on Allure.

9. Secret places for quiet and tips on dining. We are keeping $$ down so probably won't do specialty dining. As long as we can eat healthy and fresh, we're easy.

Thanks in advance. We LOVED Allure but the hear Breakaway is beautiful and so much easier with no flying involved!

LOL I misread the title of your post and thought you were looking for information about sheets for a baby crib......................DUH:o

Have not been on the Breakaway so cannot answer your questions with any past experience. But can say that most of the reviews have been favorable.

Relax. You're going to have a great cruise!

It will be a great adventure.

Sometimes too much planning is not a good thing.

Be spontaneous. Go with the flow. Experience new things and places.

It makes things that much more fun with even better memories!

Cheers!

When are you looking at going? Spring break could be an issue if you don't want crowds or loads of kids.

The Casino is fairly open, and some people complain of smelling smoke in some venues nearby. Personally I didn't. If I have one recommendation about the smoke it would be to try to forget about it. I have a theory that many people who have a problem with it are checking to see whether they can smell it in different places. Just get on and enjoy your cruise and it's less likely to be a problem.

I'm not big on healthy eating as such, but there are plenty of options. Don't ignore the buffet, which has lots of options including quite a few healthy options. If you did want to try a speciality restaurant then many people rave about the salad bar at Modernos.

There is no need to spend much if you don't want, especially if you don't drink or gamble much. If you take out our bar bill and speciality restaurants we barely spend anything. Remember the service charge though.

People say the gym is good. Personally, I got my exercise by using the stairs and doing some laps of the waterfront every morning. I'm sure you will be able to work out however you want.

My favourite place to relax and look at the sea is the waterfront, as long as you can get some space. If you don't want kids around then Spice H2O is over 18s only. There are also some areas towards the front of the ship (up some stairs from the pool deck) which are often quieter.

We had so much fun on the breakaway! See my answers below:

Hello All -

We may book Breakaway very last minute over the next few days/weeks. This is not the way I do things. When we did Allure I studied these boards obsessively for months and made an embarrassingly detailed "guide book" which I insisted my family read so they wouldn't ask me questions.

-- I agree with Keith-- Spice H2O for the win! There is Vibe as well for a fee, but we found Spice to be more than enough. Usually headed there in mid-afternoon and found it fairly empty.

2. Be away from smoke.-- Stay away from the casino. Sorry Keith, have to disagree with you there

3. Late seating. Healthy eating.-- can't really help with healthy eating. Not sure what you mean by "healthy" either-- vegetarian? Fresh ingredients only? I would think all the MDRs offered a healthy, not fried/fat option. Sorry I can't offer anything else...

4. Keep expenses down. We're not big drinkers or gamblers.-- Not hard to do-- there are plenty of options included in your fare. I think your ports are fairly easy to plan your own excursions as well, as long as you are mindful of the time of course. We are also not big drinkers or gamblers and did not feel pressured at all to spend time doing either. Ropes course and water slides shouldn't be missed if you can stomach it!

5. Working out.-- the gym is small, but my guess is not a lot of people use it. We only went once ourselves. The track on the 16th deck is crazy-- water everywhere and always bumping into people during the day. Take a nice easy stroll on the waterfront instead.

6. Deck chairs with view of ocean and not a million kids around us. We are getting old and cranky. -- decks above the main pool are fine. Spice again but those were not my fave views. We did most gazing on our balcony.

7. Beach options at Port C & Nassau. -- check out the Florida departures board and the Carribbean ports board. I can't remember the name of the beach by PC but it's the nearest one and not very impressive I gathered from reviews so we didn't go. We went to Atlantis in Nassau and had a blast at their beach, but I have read about Junkanoo beach as well. There's another resort nearby that offers a beach day for $40 or something.

8. I'm seasickness prone but was fine on Allure. the beau also gets seasick and was fine with his daily bonine. Tried to get off it one night and was totally green, but did feel a bit dizzy so we just kept it safe. Different for everyone though so don't take my word for it.

9. Secret places for quiet and tips on dining. We are keeping $$ down so probably won't do specialty dining. As long as we can eat healthy and fresh, we're easy.-- avoid the atrium and o'sheehans, as I found something was always happening there. The waterfront during the day is quiet and peaceful. There are bars all over the ship with quiet piano music that seemed like nice places to hang out. Didn't get the chance to check out the library. I found Spice to be quiet during the day-- the giant screen didn't play music or anything. Again, not sure how I can advise for dining except the usual advice to avoid peak times like right before evening shows.

Thanks in advance. We LOVED Allure but the hear Breakaway is beautiful and so much easier with no flying involved!

Have fun on your trip!

Just to clarify, when I was talking about smoke and the casino, I was referring to nearby places rather than the casino itself. You can certainly smell smoke in the actual casino, but I've not noticed it in places like o'Sheehans which some people have said that they do.

At Nassau we always go to Blue Lagoon. It's a private island with a lagoon. It's take about 30 minutes to go by boat(include in the price) last time we went, we were only 20 people and the place is huge.... It was quiet and awesome haha

We always bring a case of water and soda on board and just put a luggage tag on each. Delivered to our room with luggage. Saves money on beverages and I prefer bottled water over ship water.

I honestly was not impressed with Blue Lagoon probably because I love Great Stirup Cay so much. It is $54 per person which includes lunch. It wasn't horrible but I would try somewhere else next time or just shop in town and enjoy the quiet ship.

I also booked last minute and enjoyed it because I had no great expectations and was pleasantly surprised! Go and enjoy!

I was on the Breakaway on the March 16 sailing. I hate cigarette smoke as much as anyone, but I did not smell it in the casino, much to my surprise.

Don't worry about a late seating, because you can eat whenever you want (as long as the place is open, that is). O'Sheehan's is always open.

Ah yes, then I totally agree with you. Thanks for clarifying.

Also noticed an error-- the beau was NOT green when trying to wean off bonine during the trip, just dizzy. So he stayed on it.

On our cruise in October we'd wake up early every morning and goto spice h2o, get in the hot tub and get to enjoy it for a bit before anyone else would come out. It was great! Relaxing and a great view. We spent so much time there and it was hardly every crowded.
