Concerns about booking room on Riviera Deck on Imagination

I just booked the OceanView R174 on the Riviera Deck. Has anyone else stayed MidShip on the Carnival Imagination in the same area?

I was reading one of the few Cabin Reviews about the Carnival Imagination regarding staying on Mid-Ship ( R170 ) on the Riviera Deck and they mentioned that it was VERY noisy due to noise coming from the below deck.

I assume that is in reference to the Crew Deck and whatever noise that was coming up through the deck. I'm more concerned about the noise as we have kids.

Any information you can provide would be helpful.

We've stayed on the Riviera deck on the Inspiration, Paradise and Elation. We were on the Upper deck on the Imagination.

The only times we heard noise when staying on the Riviera deck was when they were loading/unloading the ship. One cabin we were eye-to-eye with the forklift driver. It's quite possible that this cabin is above that entryway.

I wouldn't book a cabin within 4 doors, either way, of the midship elevator. The smoke from the Casino bar rides down the elevator shaft and 'parties' in that part of the hallway. Only experienced it on the Inspiration and Imagination. (I checked out this specifically.) The Casino Bar smoking section is in a different area on the Paradise and Elation.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I don't have much choice.....my option is R174, R170, R166 and R181 in MidShip.

I was booking MidShip cuz my Wife is prone to being seasick and I wanted to find a cabin that wouldn't be as bad for her.

I'd go with the peace of mind vs. some noise. Being seasick is no fun (been there done that in the prized aft balconies). Will never do that again. We always book mid-ship now. FYI, have never noticed a difference on Upper or Empress Deck from the lower 2 decks either as long as it is mid-ship. Everyone is different and some will chime in that they've never gotten seasick in blah blah cabin, but we all know the general rule of motion. Personally, I love Upper deck. Have a wonderful time.

The first cruise we took was on the Imagination on the Riveria deck and it was awesome. We normally stay on the Riveria deck when we cruise. We can get ocean views and the price is better. I think you will be fine. The noise was not a factor and we were mid-ship and we didn't feel as much motion of the ship. Enjoy your cruise.

I was midship aboard the Carnival Imagination during hurricane sandy. All I have to say is I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else it was perfect of that! That being said I didn't hear any strange noises of any kind.

I have been in R94. No noise from below at all. No motion.

All the noise came from other passengers in the hallway especially the children.

Just returned from her this morning. We had cabin R119 - still mid ship but not as far back as you are listing. We heard NO noise from below deck. Actually our cabin was very quiet. People can be rude though as they think the hallways are places for their kids to run through and talk loudly as they do. No motion either. We did hear banging when in port before sailing and upon coming back. Found out as we were leaving the ship they were replacing some of the cabin windows so that is why the noise was loud banging. I love midship personally and would rather be there than higher up for the same reasons you mentioned above. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks to all of you responding......I'm not as concerned with the noise as I was before.

All of you will understand this....the one thing that I want to avoid is having your Significant Other complain about not being able to sleep due to noise. In terms of being seasick....we usually end up staying in Front or Aft and with an Inside cabin.....but this will be the first time that we have a OceanView Mid-Ship cabin. I'm hoping that it helps with the seasickness.

Speaking from personal experience, the window should help a lot with motion sickness. I get motion sickness when I can feel movement but I can't see it. I tend to book aft balconies and don't have a problem in the cabin. Another thing that may help her is always sitting facing the way the ship is moving when in enclosed areas like the show lounge.

I've done Riviera deck on Paradise, Elation, and Inspiration. Never a problem with noise coming from below. The only noisy times were when they were loading the ship as SadieN noted, and that wasn't troublesome at all.

In the porthole cabins all the way forward you get noise when docking/dropping anchor, but that's not something you should hear midship.

Been on Fantasy class ships many times and never had any problems with noise on the Riviera deck. But we've had issues with noise on higher decks so we prefer the Riviera. Quieter and cheaper. :)

I too, have sailed most of the "Fantasy Class" ships, mid ship, Riviera Deck, and I too can tell you that I NEVER had a problem with noise. The thrusters will vibrate the entire ship, so that's not a concern, but once again, I never heard a PEEP from below. I'd suggest you go aboard with a positive attitude, and enjoy the nice, quiet, dark serenity of your cabin. ;)

Thanks again for all of your posts.....I am not as concerned about booking on the Riviera Deck Mid-Ship now when it comes to noise. As for Seasickness....hopefully the window and staying mid-ship will make a difference for my Wife. She'll also have the full batter of medication/accessories and stuff to combat that...so hopefully she won't feel as bad throughout the cruise.

Check with your physician but strongly suggest she starts sea sicknesses medications the Fay before traveling.

I finally booked R170 on the Imagination....OceanView Stateroom for 4. I was initially going to switch over to the Inspiration cuz they had a better selection of Midship Cabins that were higher up ( such as in the Upper and Main Decks ).

I know that there isn't any real difference between the ships themselves....but after reading many of the reviews and posts about the Inspiration....I decided to just stick with the Imagination. I found that the reviews for the Inspiration was more mixed compared to the Imagination.

We pack earplugs to block out any noise - this saved us on the Glory a few years ago when the fog horn would blow every few minutes all night on our Canadian cruise! I figure it they could block out that din, any noise from other people shouldn't be an issue :-)

If you have a concern, don't do it. No one can advis you of future noises.

But never assume a ppast experience can correllate to a future one. I booked a timeshare once at a place in a popular resort town. Bu accident, I ended up on a site where previous guest were complaining about room location, noise, parking lot noises, bikers, etc. Freeked me out so much I booked a contingency motel in the area just in case.

When I got there and got my key, and made my way to my room expecting the worst, I walked into my ocean front room, full balcony, full kitchen, tw bedroom, up and away from the parkibg lot. I promptly cancelled my motel reservation. Lost $8 on the transaction.
