Rare richstowe Posted March 31, 2014 #27 Share Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) The $50.00 per person deposit promo is a wonderful idea for the cruiser and for Carnival.I wonder with the deposit being so low, if more people (certainly none of you wonderful folks)will make multiple reservations and then cancel multiple reservations just keeping the one they want. Or none at all. Carnival will end up with a much lower % of bookings turning into actual sailings. I'm not sure this is such a good idea for Carnival. Interesting - but not sure folks will waste their cash either. The $50 deposits are non-refundable- but you never know. Sent from my mobile device. Typos are inevitable. vfb2girls Posted March 31, 2014 #29 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Just booked the Liberty for next March, was planning on booking this cruise earlier this week but didn't get a chance. So the lower deposit was a nice surprise plus not having to pay extra for the upgrades was okay too.

PresDuLac Posted March 31, 2014 #34 Share Posted March 31, 2014 This 50$ deposit sale runs from may-aug correct? That's what I'm seeing on the website. Here's what it says on the booking page: Free upgrades are assigned at the time of booking and are based on availability. $50 per person non-refundable deposit is applicable to sailings outside of final payment due date. Changes made to the reservation may result in the assessment of cancellation penalties or service fees. All cancellations that occur prior to the final payment due date will receive a non-refundable and non-transferable future cruise credit in US dollars in the amount of the deposit less a $50 pp service fee. Offer is not applicable on Carnival Australia sailings. Future cruise credit must be used on a sailing within 24 months from the date of cancellation. Offer is applicable for sailings between September 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015. Offer ends on March 31, 2014 EST.

michaelandjoanne Posted March 31, 2014 #41 Share Posted March 31, 2014 About 35% of my income is a fiscal year end bonuses. My regular salary covers my normal expenses, and we use my bonus for savings, trips and major purchases. I will often take advantages of these sales since it can easily come out of the household budget (skipping a dinner out) and keeps me from breaking the no dipping into the savings account rule. When my bonus comes in, I pay the amount in full, including the gratuities and buy travellers cheques for what I plan on spending. Btw, my onboard account is usually higher than my cruise fare as I buy excursions through the line and do pictures, shopping and the casino onboard. The $50 deposit something that has influenced my decision to go on carnival vs other lines in the past. Sent from my iPad using Forums

BettyGiggles Posted March 31, 2014 #43 Share Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) With any trip planned, we book a year and a half or so out. Now why would I pay upfront for something not happening in so long? I prefer down payment and paying it off gradually and make full payment when it is due. Like paying in full for a car but you won't get it for another year or so? I know, silly comparison, but that is what came to mind :D I wish airlines would do the same, if I want to go home to visit family in Sweden and bring my daughter, I have to pay up front for plane tickets no matter if is a year out. That's a lot of money, especially going home high peak season. Last year it would have been $3000. Yes, I could save up for it but paying down payment to secure trip would be nice and then pay off like a cruise. christyran1228 Posted March 31, 2014 #44 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Can't beat interest-free financing. :) I made the deposit, and the rest is sitting in my savings earning me a few pennies until final payment is due. That explains why Carnival had record booking but lose money (the 1st time in many years). If people cancel the booking, yes, Carnival will keep that $50.00. But they will have to reduce the price by hundreds to fill the empty cabins. Brilliant.

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk It is hardly interest free financing-- you are certainly not receiving the product/service before it is paid for in full. But, we love it as well-- it allows us to book a cruise, and only have to worry about losing $100 if for some reason we have to change plans. Crap happens , and $100 is cheap insurance.
