cruizze12 Posted April 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2014 Hi. We're going on our very first cruise (Royal Caribbean) I know that you have to dress up for the captain's dinner, but is it ok to wear shorts to dinner on the other nights?

No shorts in the dining room for dinner but you could wear shorts to the windjammer buffet. Nobody will bug you about wearing jeans in the dining room. (You may get away with shorts too but I have heard of a few people getting turned away for that) Enjoy and try not to worry about the hundreds of replies you will get to this question. ;)
hansolosmom Posted April 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2014 According to the dress code, shorts are not allowed on men in the dining room at night. There are varying reports of them being seen at dinner time. I know personally we've seen girls & women in short. Also boys, my son, who was about 14 at the time was told he couldn't enter with shorts, he needed long pants, so he went back & changed. It really depends on the maître d and the head waiter on how strictly they enforce the rule.
lakelorain Posted April 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2014 If you check your cruise documents(edocs), you will find the suggested dress code for your cruise. In my experience, on the shorter Caribbean cruises shorts have been allowed. Not sure what cruise you are going on but your docs should give you some guidelines. Bevv Posted April 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2014 From the royal Caribbean website: A: There are three distinct types of evenings onboard: casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these nights are: Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women Smart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women Do the majority of men wear Suits and Ties or Tuxes on Formal nights??
