Couple ?'s from a cruise newbie

I will be going to Alaska in May on the HAL Westerdam and have a couple questions.

1. We will be getting to the dock early on embarkation day and I assume our room won't be ready when we board. So what do we do with our carry-ons until the rooms are ready? Do we just take them with us to the lido buffet while we are waiting?

2. Two of the nights we will be in port during dinner time (Juneau and Victoria). Does the MDR still serve dinner while the ship is in port?

Thanks for the help!

1. HAL has been attempting to have your rooms ready by boarding time. Ask on the HAL board here at CC (under Cruise Lines A-O) for the latest info.

2. Yes, MDR will serve dinner at the usual times. EM

1. Your room will be ready when you board the ship with the exception of just a few little items but you can leave all of your carry-ons while you go to eat lunch on Deck 9 at the Lido Restaurant.

2. All of the ship's dining options are available even while in port. If you choose a Specialty Dining option here are the menus as well as the Room Service menus:

Thanks for the quick replies! This has been very helpful, excited to know our rooms will be open when we board. Those menus are a huge plus too, glad to know ahead of time what room service will have available for breakfast. We are not morning people so a nice quiet breakfast in our cabin is perfect for us.

Ship will not shut down while in port, some people leave it late, some come back early, some come back for lunch and leave again... Dinner will be at the usual time, MDR may not be opened for lunch, but the buffet will be, limited activities during the day.

Every night the cabin steward will bring the schedule for next day, this is where all activities are listed, and restaurant hours.
